Oh, this is brilliant!!!

I can SO relate to this...can you?

"The alcoholic's compulsion to have everything done right this minute is usually matched by a rare talent for procrastination."

So unbelievably accurate...taken from a very cool book I just got called :

DENIAL is not a river in Egypt (!!)

I will post more gems as I find them.

Wonderful!

Great one!

Here is another:

"The alcoholic is an ego-maniac with an inferiority complex"

Makes sense, no?

Recovery is a process of God shaking the truth out of you.

We must be as hard on the alcoholic as possible.

Bill Wilson.

God Bless him.

If the mind had a kneecap.

Who are these people who call us such things?

Can I just make clear, there has never ever been an alcoholic personality. You can appraise everything in your being as alcoholic - but that does not mean there is an alcoholic personality.

The best one I heard at a meeting once was this, a man, with not a flicker of irnoy or humour said:

"Alcoholics poison the minds of others".

Stop being pathetic, Five.

This book is actually seen as a 'delightful' book...wealth of wit, etc.

I was going to say...and I SHOULD HAVE...it's great to be able to laugh at oneself!

All these things ring true for me and many other alcoholics I've shared this with...if not for you, then cool.

But pleeeeze do not put me into that ridiculous category above!

I HARDLY think I am scum of the earth, but I can laugh at myself when I see something so obviously true!

Lighten up, doll! Some people are actually ok with admitting their weaknesses, and celebrating their strengths! Sheesh!

I can't say I believe in the alcoholic personality theory either. Over the years I have met a zillions alcoholics each with unique personality traits. I think some alcoholics like to believe that they share certain personality traits because it makes them feel less alone.

I definitely do not believe in the alcoholic personality either...God we're far too unique for that (seriously)

But I do believe that we share some very interesting, and sometimes quite amusing idiosynchrasies. I definitely believe that.

I believe this as well, but I am not even sure whether belief means much any more. Sigh.

Sorry for derailing the thread Cathy. I went a bit mad.

No you're ok, don't worry.

Maybe what I had started out was going to be too boring anyway! I just found those pieces really funny.

Cheers
