That's a good one, BSP!

I like this one which stands for all of us...

Recovery is the process of recovering oneself.

Hehe yeah a friend of mine has it on a t shirt. I don't mind this thread at all tho, I just dun like some statements that are in fact (imo) coming down to putting yourself down, never done me much good, but that's me.

That's ok if you don't like some

I suppose, for me, it took so long to finally acknowledge my alcoholism, that I'm glad that I can relate and laugh at some of these truisms that are true for me! I don't see it as putting myself or others down, just being realistic about some of my issues related to my alcoholism.

But that's ok, we're all different.

BTW, the Netherlands is my favourite place on earth

It's a good thing we're all different.

The Netherlands is a nice place to live but it's not all peaches & cream, but then again, no country, place or whatever is.

There are no coincedences, only situations where God chooses to remain anonymous.

(That reminds me a bit of synchro-destiny Mr Chopra's wonderful book)

Last one for today...

Simply, Alcoholics are people whose lives are better if they don't drink.

Next one:

(For Five & BSP)

What's the difference between an alcoholic and a drunk?
A drunk will steal your wallet, an alcoholic will steal it and help you look for it!
LOL!!!

Actually that's just a wind up, I don't find that particularly funny.

This is good:

"I've known plenty of people who have died on the way to someone else's bottom..."
Hey Cathy, it would be interesting to know what book these are from?

I mentioned at the start of the thread that these are all from a book called "Denial is not a River in Egypt" (Amazon)

I hope you caught the joke that the one about stealing the wallet was tongue in cheek Even though it is too, in the book. As I also said it's described as a gem and the intent is healing and laughter. I agree with this take on it. If you can't see the humour, that's fine. Don't read it!

I really like this one...

Nobody ever thought I was a drunk...until they saw me sober.

(own note : sober, as opposed to dry lol! )

From a gentleman in his early sixties, fresh out of rehab, attending his first ever meeting.
He had a sparkle in his eye, like that of a kid who realizes the truth of some big secret for the first time...

I just thought I was a heavy drinker, is all.

The whole room erupted in laughter.

For all those who think it is “PC” and “wishy washy liberal” to object to these clichés – I suggest you read something about reason. Rationality, and what is true. And then you too may protest against the rising tide of bullshi t.

Dont let anyone bulls hit you into believing their bull s hit. This may help http://skepdic.com/

If the facts apply then the cliche fits.

But if it the facts dont apply, then dont try and make the cliche fit.

Whoops, actually do what you like. Its your life, your mind.
