Please stay on the Sober bus - pt.19
A bus from here is fine.
This art school is located ..well a short descriptor here..Adelaide was designed (by Col W Light) to be about a mile square- with a greenbelt of park lands around the outer edge..about half a mile wide. Then the older established 'burbs...
In an area which is now VERY high costing real estate- dwells the site of the original loony asylum )Glenside). When I was a kid- it still had a very high stone wall around it's site- topped with broken glass. With the modern focus of funding cuts and 'reassimilating' those with mental health issues into the community, most of it fell into a state of disperpair. The state knocked most of it down and sold off the land. The arts school uses several of the original loony buildings...modernised.
Very surreal- I worked at the loony bin for a few years...and later was in the lock down detox ward- as a patient. I was interviewed in one of the old dining rooms..where all cutlery was counted b4 and after meals. Some things in life do seem to go in 3's...and it marks the full circle of fate (coincedence- but what the hey, I am being philosomophical).
I would not be doing this study if I had not built up enough resistance to last 5 hours thru gym work and stuff (still work on this), and getting enough cognitive ability back by tedious hours of brain thinkin' exercises, at riding a bike in crap weather in peak hour for months to go to GP appts and the like- to get a medical ok..that got me my license, that got me my car, because I saved like Scrooge to afford one..etc. Every one being another rung on that upward ladder and each hard work. All supported by this place (SR).

Congratulations PhoenixJ, that is genuinely inspirational, good luck!
I passed this weird converted liferaft on the canal this morning. That dormer window is hilarious. Pretty it isn't but i'm glad someone converted it.
Congratulations PJ. I'm a day late and a dollar short. Still wanted to congratulate you on art school.
I've seen many sober folks come to do amazing things they only dreamed about when sitting on bar stools.

Octopus' garden! YES...my family's big vacation is a family renunion/ hub's side of the family. Going to Kelowna, BC Canada and then Tofino, BC. Before we get there, we fly to Seattle and we are considering scuba diving out of Seattle to see the Pacific OCTOPUS. I am not a huge fan of cold diving but I had some amazing experiences diving Tobermory last summer (Lake Huron/Georgian Bay ON, Cananda) last summer and managed the cold. My son got certified to dive there last summer, so now all four of us are divers. I am looking forward to the entire trip but it is a little maddening that now ALL 4 of us are divers and we have to spend our vacation budget on the enormously expensive trip to a non scuba location. Hoping we can squeeze in this dive but it will be very pricey to add on to the already over budget trip. Other option is the less expensive Steven's pass hiking in the mountains on our way to Kelowna.
Oh yes...I am on the bus for Day 21...and if you need someone to put on their scuba gear to check on our bus/sub's external workings, I am your girl. Dreaming of diving in the Keys where I plan to retire so could we head there today? I know lots of beautiful things to show you in the reefs. Diving and drinking are two things the DO NOT go together well. An amazing reason to be sober. Marathon Key anyone?
