Alcoholism Centers in the Mind
This is currently one of five main articles on this sites home page. There would seem to be a difference of opinion about the appropriateness for the use of this term.
Just wanted to get some clarification. Is there a double standard here?
Please don't shoot the messenger.
I do understand that Centered, and I didn't intend to suggest you felt AA was the only way to recover. Rather, I was pointing out that not everyone (including addiction researchers and specialists) accepts AA's beliefs about the causes of alcoholism. For example, in your original post you mentioned how your sponsor realized it was "the reaction to and her thinking about her problems that was the underlying problem of her alcoholism." However, many people do not accept that reactions and thinking are the underlying causes of a serious drinking problem. Your intentions with this thread were obviously good, I was just pointing out that AA's presumptions about the underlying causes of alcoholism are not universally held; although, because AA and 12-Step doctrine and beliefs are so ingrained in our recovery treatment organizations and culture, it's easy to believe that is the case. I hope that clears up things a bit.
Can someone please tell me who censored the screen shot of the dry drunk article which I included in my previous post?
Can I also have an explanation of WHY it was censored? It's an image of what's on this sites home page! Is there something wrong with showing that?

Dee I edited the post (#40) within the first 15 mins. The screen shot came up ... repeatedly. When Scotts reply quoted me it also came up there. It was there Dee. I know it was. I saw it.
None of the photos from my albums at SR now display when their web addresses are entered. They have apparently been disabled. Interesting how this happened just after my posting to this thread.
This is the web address for the image I posted and it is still not working as of the time of this post.

I'm the only mod whose been around for last several hours.
Trust me, I've done nothing, and there's nothing underhanded going on - I've neither time nor inclination to mess with people's minds
Sometimes old cookies can do weird things. Clear out your cookie cache. If your albums still not right after that maybe post in the technical forum?
(I can click on all of your album pics, altho some of the thumbnails appear to be missing.)
Scott's following up on your earlier posts. It's his forum, and his place to reply to you

I wonder where the term "dry drunk" came from. Rehab speak for frequent flyers? Also, "stinking thinking". another one of those cliches you hear in pretty much all recovery circles.
I personally think it doesn't really matter where any of these terms came from. What's important is making sure that if we use them, we realize that they can be taken out of context and know our audience.
Centered3, Thank you for everything you wrote. I could identify with you unmanageable feelings. I too am "selfish, dishonest, self-seeking, and frightened" spiritually. I take everything personal and invent things in my head that are not true. I have lost many friendships because of this. Thank you so much and I am really thankful I read this. Your writing is so helpful!

When your world is small, you make mountains out of molehills. Alcohol tends to isolate and make people's worlds smaller, so it's predictable that their feelings about little things are exacerbated.
In my opinion, a good solution to that feeling is to expand your world. Be more ambitious in what you're trying to achieve in life, make more mini connections with people, etc.
In other words, perspective is the only thing that gives us the ability to say something is not that big a deal. We can't just pretend to have perspective either, thinking 'most people wouldn't see this as a big problem.' It has to be you who knows it isn't making a big splash in your life.

I believe there is room here for all manner of recovery
If you ain't drinking you are sober
Alcoholism as an illness has a distinct biological basis and affects the body on a cellular level
It also alters the limbic brain and various dopamine receptors
The resulting behaviours demonstrated by the alcoholic warp and corrode their own soul and alienate them from family and broader society
We all know this
We need to ackowledge the myriad ways in which people choose to sober up and pursue abstinence
Many paths to the same solution
United we stand
Divided we fall
Peace and love

Were you logged in one time and not the other? I'm always logged in on my computer but not my phone. I have to remember to log in on my phone or I can't see certain links. Otherwise there may be a conspiracy that we are unaware of maybe I am going to have to check out that article. The use of the term dry drunk is kind of crappie IMO. Some people have underlying issues and take longer to heal.
Nothing was edited by me in this thread. Awuh - since the issue seemed to affect ALL of your other images as well my guess is that something must have been up with your PC or internet connection at the time.
Any time a post is edited or removed ( for whatever reason ) the original poster would always be contacted directly by an admin or a moderator. There is no arbitrary editing or deleting of posts done by anyone. There are also checks and balances among the moderators and admins to maintain consistency for everyone.

Just to follow up. This problem has something to do with internet explorer web browser not displaying images (signed in or not). I have never noticed this before. It took an issue like this, in combination with my posting an image (which subsequently disappeared) for me to notice the problem.
It makes me wonder how many other people are having this problem and don't know it.
