Hey Dag,
The amounts you mentioned are very similar to what I was ingesting daily for nearly two years; it's a deadly amount, and I'm surprised I'm still alive. It took medical detox and a brief inpatient treatment program to stop my personal path toward liver failure. You don't sound suicidal! Please consider professional help.

Yes, thats a crazy amount of alcohol makes me feel sick just to think about it.

Kudos for wanting to get help!

The amounts I mentioned gave me alcoholic hepatitis, which isn't contagious, but still very dangerous.

Once we start to drink, our brains are not able to tell us that it's time to stop... that's what i've found about myself.

After I drank a 6 pack or a bottle of wine, I would go right out at midnight or after and get more and stay up all night. It is sickening to me the next day.

I pray that you find the strength DAG417 to kick this evil habit.

Dag. A great support system worked wonders for me. This is a very good site filled with great people who are or have been there. Health was my reason for starting my new life. im 34 and drank about 20 beers a day until I had my 2nd alcohol seizure. When admitted to detox I weighed 107lbs. Today 19 days sober I weigh 121lbs and climbing. I surely would have killed me and left my family alone. My father lost a very good job at singer link 30 yrs ago due to alcohol. He went to rehab and started his life over. Hes 78 yrs old now and living a very good life. Yesterday 2/18/14 was 29yrs sober. Its tough, not impossible though. Best of luck to you. Keep fighting

I'm determined to kick it. And I've been encouraged by the good people from this forum and my family to do so.

I knew there was a way and a good reason to seek help. Even if my employer tries to punish me for it.

Dag, I just want to encourage you not to assume you'll get fired for treating your alcoholism. The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) offers protected time off work for people to take care of a serious health problem. There are some parameters that have to be met (chief being that the employer has to have 50+ employees). It's worth checking out.

Very interesting. The fact is that its not the amount of alcohol that you should be concerned about, its what alcohol does to you. So one person can drink a small amount and they black out, pass out, puke, whatever. Another person it takes them a huge amount. The fact I obsess over alcohol and that I crave alcohol once I take the first drink speaks volumes.

Another suggestion would be to contact Alcoholics Anonymous in your area.

They may have some ideas to share with you.

Perhaps someone might be able to suggest a good detox/treatment site in your area.

Perhaps support from people at AA could help.
