I failed.
I've heard it said and experienced it that "left to our own devices we will drink again". I'm sorry you drank again. Is there anything you can learn from this experience?
CHANGE, for me, is the key. I had to change SOMETHING so I wasnt white knuckling it in torture alone.( I went thru all sorts of mental hell when I was alone with myself. Drinking was the only cure I knew.I tried will power to stop- didnt work for me) I went to AA as people have said. I raised my hand and told them the truth. I asked for the help I was finally ready to accept because I was mentally at my bottom. The rest is a blurr of continuous sobriety, literally hundreds of meetings, making many new friends in AA, hours of phone conversations because I felt bad in some way, going out for coffee 5 nights a week after the meeting and getting there out of the kindness of AA people because I didnt have a car. I spent very little time alone. When I was; I phoned a friend.
Time has passed.....as a result.....I am my own best friend when alone instead of my worst enemy.
I wish you the best.
