I have a new update on improved health after 11 months of sobriety. I had Alopecia Areata for the last year of my drinking and it lasted until just recently 11 months after my last drink.

Basically, Alopecia is when a patch of hair stops growing. It can be the size of a dime up to larger sizes like a potato chip size. It has started growing back! It is thought to be caused by stress. Imagine that? I thought my half-dollar sized patch on the back of my head was never going to grow back. While I was very stressed during those two years I believe it was probably caused by my very high blood pressure. That's just a guess though. Now I can guess and ponder about all those health things I had but all I had to do was quit drinking for them all to go away.

Quitting drinking does wonders for your health!

The other one was my throat began to ache. Not like a sore throat but like the whole pipe.
from OP wonder what that was about. I had the same issue. I also had panic attacks. those where the 2 biggies. I had a lot of other ailments but those pushed me over the edge.

Anxiety and panic attacks. What it did to my brain/mind. It made me feel like I was trapped, quite literally.

The physical symptoms were bearable. I'm on day 5 and I still have some twitchy fingers. I don't plan on ever having twitchy fingers again

Make a life for yourself. Put in some hard work. Go explore the world. No need for booze. The crap is poison... acetaldehyde is especially poisonous, which is the working mechanism for Antabuse.

The freaking hangovers were controlling my life! I was drinking a lot of beers to feel "normal". The line between hungover and drunk was razor thin some days. The fun was long gone.

Watching my blood pressure go from pre-hypertension to stage 2 over 4 years and my last physical showing classic signs of real damage were the last straw. My LDL is WAY too high as well so my coronary heart disease risk scares me quite a bit. I had plenty of mental things like anxiety and difficulty concentrating in the morning to name a few.

I quantified my drinking and realized that over a decade of daily 6+ beers and at least half a fifth of 90 proof bourbon was going to end my life early if I didn't do something. I was hardly kind to my body prior to my daily drinking days as well. I don't want to go out like that and the only way I can control part of it is to not drink anymore.

I had never heard of that condition before. Maybe sobriety can help with my bald spot as well, but unfortunately I think that is just male baldness setting in

I've enjoyed reading your posts Melinda in the short time I've been on this board.
