Early Riser Check-in Thread Part 20
Good morning Earlies. Enjoying the early morning Great Horned Owl calls...s/he is here every winter in the very early mornings. It's 3AM here. There might be two of them calling back and forth but when I go outside it stops. I'm drinking the last of the eggnog in my coffee and really appreciating the gentle glow of the Christmas tree.
Is it Spring yet?

Good heavens, got home at 1:30 AM from working a college bowl game, up at 5:00 for 17 more hours of work....yawn....just pour that coffee down. It was a little strange to arrive home and the house wasn't lit up for the holidays anymore. Ah well, on to 2023!
Awake at 6:00 AM when Gdaughter’s forgotten tablet alarm went off. I was dreaming about large rats that kept attacking pets. My old boss the Local postmaster was in it. That’s an easy interpretation ha ha. He was extremely intelligent but dumber than a box of rocks on people skills. What a way to wake up!
I would much rather wake up to a hooting owl bimini. That is a beautiful noise.
I don’t know what I’m up to today. Maybe an outing to the State Museum with Gkids.
Ready for more coffee and I’m to try adding eggnog.

Wow... I wonder what it is to be woken up by "Great Horned Owls" chatting at 3am!
I went on YouTube to have a look...it doesn't sound very loud (?)
Snow and snow and snow again, will it ever stop!
I'll have a coffee for now
Have a good day friends!
(Sleep well tonight Bim!)

Back to the work grind today, as I have to close the store tonight. It felt good having a few days off. It was a roller coaster of a holiday emotionally that is going to cause a reset in the family dynamics.
I love owls, and occasionally hear one in the tree line behind me in the summer. Such majestic birds.
Drinking a coffee or two at the Cafe before work. Watching pictures of Buffalo and can't help but feel for those trapped with no heat and no food. It makes me realize just how lucky I am walking around on the planet.
Have a good day all!

CK, the owl(s) don't wake me up, it's me and my crazy old brain that wakes me up. With the windows shut I can barely hear him/her. I think he/she is some distance away - like several hundred feet. I sit here near the window in the mornings on the computer and that's the only time I hear it and only for an hour or two in the pre-dawn - but it's gone on for years.
I just did a little Googling and according to AllAboutBirds it seems they are territorial, and they don't pair up except in nesting season but may share a territory year round with a mate. In my area nesting season is probably in a month or two (?)

I'm an early riser today, having been woken up out of a sound sleep at 2 am by awful pain in my feet from neuropathy. . I didn't want to be an early riser, and after the home health nurse leaves today, I'm going to try to take a nap.
Been up since 5:00 AM. On my second cup of coffee and starting to get stuff ready for our vacation which is in 2 weeks. Yeah, I am a bit obsessed with starting the packing early. Don’t want to forget anything! :-)
