Can we get over the time thing and talk about SR issues though?
It doesn't seem much different than the Newbie Bus, and that's been "rolling along" for over a year now.
In case anyone's interested I'm up for the day now (maybe), it's 8:15 a.m...going to have some breakfast, and then wait for the meter reader to come do whatever it is he's getting paid to do. My life is sooooo exciting!
It's past lunch-time for WL and Yank (maybe coffee-break time)...so, bon apetit (my French isn't that great)...unless he's a night-owl or insomniac, Kevin should be tucked in at 12:30 a.m. ON THURSDAY!
Keep reaching out those Hands Across Time Zones.

Hello all from Japan,
Figured we needed east Asia represented.
Here when I want to call my parents (in Pennsylvania--east coast US) I just subtract 2 (1 in summer) and switch the am/pm.
When I fly home I usually arrive about an hour or two before I leave. My mother still can't get her head around that. I tell her the plane just stays in one place while the earth rotates.
By the way, Rae, what exit? (Hehehe).

How about: "What do you do with your free time when you're not thinking or talking about alcoholism?"
I can't remember who's tagline says, "I'm an alcoholic, but it's not all I am."
If anyone know's I'd appreciate you telling me so I can quote them properly.
Oh, and also whoever said (I think it was some wise person in someone's AA group), "You've reached your rock bottom when you stop digging". I love this one since I'm sure many people, myself included, like to think they don't have a problem since they still have a job, family, friends, clean clothes, etc.
PS It's 3:45 in Paris and I can't wait to come back later.

I can never think of this song without visualizing "Clockwork Orange".
Is that a Far Eastern thing, Scotty?
So who's got the first official topic of this now serious thread.
rae
Okay, I'll bite. Let's keep it simple to start this international discussion.
What are the AA meetings like in your part of the world? How many do you attend?
I have a variety available. There are speaker meetings, Big Book meetings, 12/12 where they read/discuss a step or tradition.
But my favorite is my noon non-smokers meeting at my Club building. It's a wild and crazy discussion group. We don't do any readings, just celebrate newcomers and birthdays and get right to it. It allows a wide variety of topics and we just serve as Leader when the spirit moves us. Usually someone speaks up around 12:04.
I usually attend 1-2 meetings per day, plus a Men's workshop once a week.

Well I thought I was kidding but I guess I need to work on my delivery of sarcasm!
I honestly would like to know if anyone does anything other than talk about alcoholism, and it seemed like a fun topic, rather than serious. But, I really like Roadies suggestion. It's very appropriate to compare approaches around the world. I know that there are AA meetings at the American Church in Paris, and I think even NA, AlAnon, NAnon?, and I've even seen signs in my town in French for people who have a drinking problem to get together somewhere. I'm too far to pop into Paris for a meeting and I can't speak French enough to go to a meeting here so I just talk to you guys. So far it seems to be working for me. so far...

Morning all! tis 5:30 am Thursday here
We have AA meetings the same as you ! LOL. We have , recovery meetings, S
Spiritual Concept meetings, Discussion meetings, normal ID meetings, Speaker Meetings
Most of our meetings last 11/2 hours, sometimes the Recovery ones last an hour .Unlike you , we dont have Clubs and clubhouses, which I personally think is a pity. We have a guy from Alabama in my home group, and he had an AA meeting , American style, at his 42 birthday party. it was a wonderful way to end the celebrations.
The other difference over here is that we close with The Serenity Prayer , instead of The Lords Prayer. Some meetings join hands for this , some dont , is a group conscience thing. Also, some meetings say "Hi" to each speaker, some not .
I am a meetings person, when I am working , I do about 5, and sometimes 7 depending on my shifts, at present I am on holidays, and am doing some that I normally dont do. I socialise a lot with my AA friends, lunches , coffee, movies ect. I had absolutely NO friends when I drank, so all my friends are in AA, and thats a good thing !
The AAs in my general area have formed a golf team, and play each other LOL I cant even get a job as a caddy, and lot of the guys go to the gym ,and do " mens secret business" togetherLOL Also there has come into being a BOWLING team! The first "game " is next month , Western general Group vs the rest of the world! LOL
I have 2 americans in my home group, Eric from Alabama, and Sherry from Seattle, both living here now .
Some of the groups have annual Bar B ques, and Christmas parties , there is a huge meeting , and Christmas Lunch put on every christmas Day , it is terrific.
cant think of anything to add, but ask away if you have any questions

I cannot believe I slept right through the one and only soap opera I watch, Young & Restless...all but the last five minutes!!! Since this is the highlight of my very exciting existence...I'm a bit out of sorts. Actually, I'm beginning to think this thread has me in a time warp!!!
Beam Me Up, Scotty!!!
It's a little after 3:00 pm here. After I have some tea and toast, I'll come back and try to give you a run-down on the meetings in my area. Later!

Good morning Lee and Nogard,
The kiddies are finally in bed and I just can't think about driving school right now so I thought I'd check in. I really do think it's pretty neat to consciously know where in the world people are and where they are in their day, even though it may cause some to suffer from "timewarposis".
I think I need to stay up till midnight to really catch the action here though.

Funny, you should mention Dr. Phil...he's on right now at 3:30 pm on Wednesday. Guess what the topic is...an alcoholic woman who has been trading sex for drinks and cigarettes...hmmmmn!?!
Here I am, just reaching out a hand across the time zones, and there's always someone, somewhere ready to keep my memory green...Thanks, Dr. Phil!
Now, I really need a drink! Tea, please...and some buttered toast on the side!

And with that said, I think it's time to say Goedenacht en welterustig! Tot Morgan!
