tetra, sorry you are struggling. It sounds like you are not ready to commit to sobriety and recovery despite feeling terrible and being on sick leave. I hope you find peace in your heart.

Mags, thanks!

I guess I am going through some weird stress lately too, and almost a year and a half into my journey, navigating sober and actively recovering is still a little foreign to me after drinking for 20+ years. Makes sense, it will take some time.

Hope all posters and lurkers find peace in their decisions and actions moving forward this weekend. We are here, and we are IN!

I worked in Hebburn for a number of years though I've not been back there for quite a few years. The office I worked in used to be near the Metro station. It's no longer there, it was demolished a number of years ago and is now a housing estate.

I've changed my avatar again, this time it's the Gateshead / Newcastle Millennium Bridge in full tilt mode, which it does to allow river traffic to pass underneath.

Cool bridge, Robbie. Is it new; I don’t remember seeing it when I was there; from its name, I am guessing it was constructed around the year 2000.

Thank you, dear Mags, for another great thread. Yep, the sober rush is a good one, indeed.

In for a Sober Weekend.

and ❤️ to all.

Here for the weekend Thanks Mags! The quotes about trying something new were good to read for me; I want to learn how to ice skate so I’m looking into lessons. I am 61 but still want to learn.

Tetra, I hope you feel better quite soon 💚

Yep. All that stuff Gilmer wisely mentioned.

Now that I'm old & chilled, lotsa little ordinary things suit me just fine as my 'rush'. Like, being able to lift my Arm.

~5 Weeks ago, I went down hard on some Snow-covered Ice by our Trailer while prepping it for our Xmas Trip to SoCal. Which we went ahead with, since the last phase was to sit in Hot Springs at a RV Joint by Palm Springs. Good for what ailed me.My left Shoulder took the very hard hit, and I'm only now getting Arm use back. Thanks to PT learned after wicked Whiplash back in 1990, and pain-moderating Gabapentin. Which I've taken before for out-of-the-blue Neuropathy. Compounded back then by ridiculous 24/7 Alcohol intake.

The sharp-edged Trailer Steps were inches from my Head. Which, slammed into the Ice fairly hard in my cartoon-style fall at full force. My Cowboy Hat saved me from a Concussion. So, my ongoing Gratitude is that I didn't take out my Jaw or Cheek or vision. I very easily could have bled out while unconscious on the Ice. Instead, just a small, torn inner Shoulder Muscle. No biggie, now that I've had it assessed a few Days ago. X-Rays and Surgery are not needed. Knowledge is power.

The double-whammy of being alive and Sober enabled this Pic this morning out our Kitchen Window. Life be good.

Thanks, Mags...

That's a wonderful picture MesaMan. What a beautiful view from your kitchen window. All I can see from mine is a small garden, a back street and houses opposite! Not quite the same. Your fall sounds scary but thankfully it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I hope you make a full recovery very soon.

It was indeed. The bridge was built to mark the Millennium and opened in 2001. It's very impressive and as the following article states, it was the first tilting bridge ever to be constructed. It's designed to tilt to a 40 degree angle to allow river traffic to pass underneath. Needless to say, when that happens, no-one is actually on the bridge!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatesh...lennium_Bridge

If you click on the first two pictures in the above article you'll get a good idea of how impressive it is. The second picture shows the bridge at full tilt.

Actually I'm not drinking at the moment. I just needed some time. Probably some extra support as well. I need to take care of me if that makes sense.

I’m in for my third sober weekend of 2023, so happy to say I have not blacked out, vomited, been arrested in 2023. I literally was arrested at the same airport twice for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in the span of less than 8 years. I’m so ashamed, this time was worse because I have zero memory of the incident. That shame is carried with me daily, it’s been a month today. I’m a mess but not messing up anymore.

My goodness, MesaMa, what an awful fall. Glad that you are recovering pretty well.

Thanks, Robbie, that is quite the bridge - a very interesting fear if engineering. Thanks so much for the article.

Glad that you are not drinking, Tetra. Stay with us for support, okay? We care about you.

Welcome, Tica.

Thank you all, I’m glad to be here too. This is where I need to be. As long as I’m not drinking I’m not making my situation worse.
