Well... it happened. She's gone.
I’m so sorry for your loss FreeOwl! Way too young to die. I am also sorry your family is having a difficult time acknowledging and accepting the truth about what killed your sister. It must be so hard not to be able to talk with your family openly about your feelings around this. I have been in a similar situation with suicides in the family and everyone denying what really happened. It really makes it harder to process and move forward. I hope that you have close ones you can talk to, maybe even a therapist. I know SR is here for you too.
FreeOwl, I'm so sorry for the loss of your sister. I feel for you ... similar dynamic in my family, sister has a drinking problem and nobody will deal with it straight on. It is a very sad and helpless feeling watching someone harm themselves. You have a lot of friends on SR who understand what you're going through.
I'm so very sorry for your loss, FreeOwl. My youngest brother is 35 and has been in and out of ICU due to his alcoholism, with parents trying to hide the situation. I dread getting the phone call that will surely come one day, to say that he didn't make it.
I'm sure the pain of losing your sister feels unbearable right now. Peace to you.

Freeowl,
I’m so very sorry. Prayers lifted in your sisters honor. No matter what her challengers or demons were, she deserved love and compassion, which she got from you.
As you well and painfully know, we can’t love anyone out of their demons. Nobody could love us out if ours.
I’m grateful for your sobriety. While it’s undoubtedly being tested, this also illustrates that without recovery we are absolutely lost.
Prayers for you as you get through this with your family.
I get your frustration with your family, the same exact whitewashing happened with us. I am definitely in your camp. But we can’t change what others think and feel. I hope they can have honest, caring conversations about this for the health of all of you. But if they can’t, you can have those conversations with others for your sake. You are absolutely right, honesty does not dishonor your sister, not at all.
Prayers and good vibes to you.

Hi FreeOwl,
I’m so sorry for the loss of your sister. Addiction is a terrible thing, as we all know. I’m sorry you didn’t get to say goodbye. Maybe writing a letter and sharing some good memories you have of her, as well as your goodbye might help.
I’ll be thinking of you and your family.
