Want to get an AA meeting to come to a screeching halt?

I really miss those days when I was going to college. A bunch of us would sit around and debate/argue about all sorts of things; religion, social issues, politics, etc. They would get pretty heated sometimes, but in the end, we all agreed to disagree and remained friends. We learned a lot from each other. It's a shame as adults we become so rigid in our thinking. We all lose and keep barriers between us. John

Whatever works to keep away from drinking is a good thing,
regardelss of if i think it's right or not. If the AA meetings help people
thats great. It really is.
My problem is sitting in a room listening to things like higher power,
god, other things i personally dont find relevant to recovering from
drinking alcohol and having to change you're lifestyle to suit.
In my eyes you should be changing your lifestyle the way YOU need
to, to live the life you live. We all live very different lives and the
"my way or the highway" approach of the 12 steps to me seems
absurb.
It's hard enough breaking old habits and learning how to live sober
without taking in all of that stuff. For me anyway. I think there's
far important things to be addressing.
I find it sad that a lot of people go without help simply because
they dont believe or have any interest in doing so. Some
of the larger rehab setups near me do bible study 5
days a week,if you dont like it,leave. Thats what they think.
I dont think that 150 bed facility should just be for people
who belive in jesus christ. Anyway,im not starting an argument.
I believe there is a god, not something i consider anything of anybodys
buiseness and not something i would think i would be discussing
in a group full of people trying to recover from alcohol.
If that is whats helping people though, power to them.

seeing as the OP s not come back, I think we'll leave it there.
For me as an outsider the great thing about AA is how it can be so many things to so many people.
I do appreciate AA is not the only way tho, and to anyone not happy with AA for whatever reason, I say please do continue your search for what works for you.
That goes for other programmes too - SMART Lifering Celebrate Recovery...whatever.
Find what works for you.
we're done
