I am a mess....

My last drink was Sunday afternoon. It's Tuesday afternoon now and I haven't slept a wink. Probably won't sleep until tomorrow as 3 days is the norm for me when I detox. This is my 3rd detox within the last year. The other 2 I did in a detox facility but they were such miserable places. This time I am staying home even though my apartment looks like a garbage dump.

Withdrawal symptoms are mild. Shaky hands, sweats, and horrible anxiety that makes it impossible to sleep. I am making this post mainly so I have a reminder to go to next time I want to have a pint. It's never just a pint. Spent over $2000 on this binge from around Christmas until now. Just on booze. Madness....

Why not see a doc and get meds to get you through the early days?

We Can Do It

Hang in there. This will be worth it in the long run. Stay focused to why you want to do stay sober. I'm here if you want to share more.

I am in no condition to leave the house. My doctor is an hour away. At the ER, you have to wait for 4 hours in a chair before a doc will see you.

Turn on a movie and drink some hot tea. Take a hot bath or shower. You will get through this and be better off for it.

I do understand the anxiety and it took me a better part of a week to see that my anxiety was calming down. Stay close. We are here for you.

Hang in there WL,
I spent £250,000 on my 24 year drinking spree.
All the beer in the world won’t fill that hole.
The things I could have had instead.
Now I’m sober I will get lots of good things.
You can too, just keep putting one foot in front of the other until one day this will be a distant memory and you will be happier than you’ve ever been.
Take care, be kind to yourself

A client of mine told me that when he needs to go to the ER that: "I avoid the wait time by calling an ambulance." I was floored, but it does make sense. Although this guy's very wealthy and the cost of the ride means nothing to him.

Woah, hey, do you have someone looking after you?
If you start to get confused or hallucinate you could be going into the DTs, which is very dangerous.
Please be careful!

I'm fine as far as severity now. But I do live very close to Detox if things get worse. That place is like a prison though. You just lie on a cot for 3 days with nothing to do. I spent 3 days wide awake listen to other drunks snore. No phones allowed, no internet, or TV.

I'm glad to hear you're OK.
Even though that place is boring they still have Ativan and can take care of you if need be, I'm happy to hear you're close and willing to go if things start to come untethered.

How are you keeping busy for now?

When I'm feeling low and not in a place to leave the house I like to watch stand up..

Detoxing sucks no matter where you're at! I've detoxed in jail(3days) and in the comfort of my home several times(still sucked!) My suggestion..Use your not sleeping on positive things. Clean your place from top-bottom. Build solid a/some recovery plan(s) that you CAN/will stick with(I know I've made some irrational plans in the past). Force yourself to exercise some. Journal. Just don't sit around having a pity party. I know around day 3 for me was always tough because the 'regret' was starting to lift, body feeling 'pretty good',ect...

I wish I do those things. Could be getting to DT's. Auditory hallucinations. That's normal for me. I have my neighbour next door who is watching over me though. They are great at watching!

You know, if you want, this can be the very last time you go through this!

I've detoxed many times, it sucks. I plan to never put myself in the position where I need to do it again.
