I'm hoping to go to a private facility a few hours from home. It is 12-step based and at least 30 days. You get a private or semi-private room which is nice and they emphasize other forms of therapy like yoga, meditation, art therapy, etc. It also focuses on mental illness or dual diagnosis and since I've had clinical depression pretty severely on/off since college (I'm 37 now), that is important for me to address too. Because even without alcohol, the depression can be hard to manage sometimes.

I'll be able to have limited visitation with family and make phone calls after awhile so that will be nice too.

You will find that it will be the best decision you have made! Go with an open mind and know that you will get the help you need. It is a good thing!

Assessment and check in Friday. Now I'm scared to death but will persevere.

Not sure about that as I'm facing a costly divorce ahead of me and losing my son/home. Forget that I'm currently unemployed. Luckily, I do have college degrees and quite a bit of experience so hopefully after I dig out of this mess my life won't be totally put to hell. I'm not very optimistic right now but just looking forward to being sober. Thanks though.

Good luck to you in all avenues! Please focus 110% on this rehab option you've been given. The other stuff will fall into place with you gaining long term sobriety. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen. Only focus for now needs to be on YOU.

I hate that the treatment for a selfish addiction is to be selfish. Quite contradictory isn't it?

Wow, I've been a member for two years now I'm just noticing. And I'm worse off. That's depressing.

But you're about to get one hell of a lot better.

Now that's uplifting!

You can’t effectively help others without getting right with yourself first.

This time being selfish is to learn to live a healthy beautiful life. You'll learn skills that help you to recognize when you're being selfish. I am with Zanna in the thought that this is your year. Start the year off and take care of yourself first. So you can take care of your son, parents and friends.

you said it's quite contradictory, you will find a lot of contrary information in the 12-step program. Here's one: There's no judgement in the rooms of AA, but you need to stick with the winners. Anyway, I wish you a lot of luck. 12 step programs are very successful for those that have an open mind, willingness, and do the work.

I'm going to do my best. A day and a half before check in. Already preparing and overpacking.
