So sorry for your loss. A poignant reminder to us all that this is no joke.

I know if I keep drinking it will dramatically shorten my life and the quality of it that I have left. I'm sure there are a lot of people like me that delude themselves that alcohol is just part of every day life - it's legal - death happens to other people - etc.

No. If we keep drinking insane amounts - OR EVEN PICK UP AGAIN - we will die

Thank you for posting. Let's hope that your friends death serves as a significant warning to others (in both his personal circle and on here) - and if it does then his death will not have been in vain.
