Hey everyone
Hi everyone.
I am finding it hard to put into words why I joined this site. The main reasons is my brother and father. They are both addicts. My father to alcohol and my brother to heroin.
I wanted to join this site in hope of been able to help them. I think reading about people struggles with addictions, and knowing there is people out their who is in recovery and are leading great lives gives me hope.
My father, no matter what, he will never change. We have tried everything.
My brother is currently in prison in another country thanks to his drug problems. He had to leave here because of consequences regarding his drug use.
I hope people here do not mind me joining up and posting from time to time.
I am just a family member trying to find ways to understand addiction.
Thank you for thanking time to read this.

Hi and welcome LoveTheGame
I'm sorry for what brings you here, but it's actually you'll who'll find support here
It can be awfully lonely being the loved one of an addict or alcoholic - but you're among friends here

Welcome, LoveTheGame - I'm so sorry for what you're going through. There are many here who understand exactly how you're feeling. It helps relieve some of the anxiety to know you aren't alone.
Hi. Welcome.
I'm glad you're here, and I'm sure that you will find this forum useful. We're all welcome to post wherever we like on here, but one area that may be specially useful to you is the Friends and Family area.... https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...ery-plans.html (Psst...wanna know why I'm always recommending recovery plans?)
Lots of people there will have experiences similar to your own and found various ways of coping and minimising the effect of addict family on themselves and their potential for a full and happy life.
Have you accessed any of the support groups that are avaiable to you locally? If not then it might be worth investigating these.
ACOA (for adult children of alcoholic parents) in particular might be useful - even if only drawing on their online resources or literature. Adult Children of Alcoholics
Nar-Anon or Fam-Anon may be useful as well. If you google those things along with your country you'll be able to see what's available for you
Anyway. Again, welcome.
BB

Thank you so much BB, I will defo check the link and see if there is any support groups in my country like that. I know there is one for alcoholic parents, but think there is a cut of age.
