Hello January class of 2017 -

I joined in Jan. of 2016 and it was the best thing I could ever do to get sober & work on my long term recovery! In a few hours I'll celebrate One Year.

Post often and support each other. What you get in return is priceless.
Best wishes to all of you on this amazing journey!

Oh, and listen to our wise Dee. Also listen to what he doesn't say...it's just as important!

Its 4.12am here- can't sleep- feel desperate for a drink, got two job interviews this week and everything seemed to be going ok- found a beautiful girl and we planned it all but I feel like she's going off me and I can't cope with the rejection if that happens- I know this sounds weak but my heads all over the place. All I can think of is buying a bottle tomorrow to 'cope' with this uneasy feeling.....

sounds like a part of you almost wants to sabotage the good things you have going 1step?

Buying a bottle is one sure way of making sure everything falls apart...why not trust a different way this time?

Im scared Dee, scared of getting hurt, scared of not being able to do the jobs Im applying for- my heads telling me its all going to go wrong so if I get drunk it will be easier to deal with- numb the pain- as crazy as that sounds.....

BEing scared is a totally normal feeling. When I first quit (1 year ago) I told myself I was going to learn to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. I told myself that it was okay if I tried something new and failed. Told myself it was okay to be scared, angry, hurt, depressed, etc as long as I was feeling and not numbing with alcohol.

I journal and it always helps. Keep posting here as often as needed. We are always here for you.

I understand - I was scared too so I drank and, like I said, I sabotaged any kind of change.

It's ok to be scared - it's not ok to turn your back on things you deserve or things that may improve your life and the lives of the people you love.

I never knew how capable I was until I took the booze away. I'm glad I did,

You will be too 1step

I know a person in recovery- but not ACTIVE recovery. They are not drinking or using. The isolate- do not take care of themselves. They come from a well off family. They do not eat or shower or do anything in life. They are in danger of being expelled from that recovery program because if they do nothing- even try- to join life- they cannot be helped- where somewhere- someone is waiting to be helped. That person is so scared or trying, of failing- they do not try and therefore fail. They are scared of being scared.
Alcohol does not make any thing go away. Alcohol makes everything worse. Alcohol is destructive and unrelenting. I used to set myself up to fail- after all if I put in a half baked attempt, fail -then explain to every one 'at least I tried', it gave me the perfect opportunity to drink.. Well that worked exactly once.
A new year- new beginnings.

Hello and Happy New Year!!

I am a proud member of the January 2016 class, and one year ago tonight was where each of you are now. I was starting over at Day one, again. I promised myself that 2016 was going to be different, and thanks to the support of SR, my amazing January classmates, and people like Dee I have one year sober.

Read and post on here daily. If you feel like you are going to drink log in here first, someone will be around to help you through that. Read Dee's link about plans, and come up with one. It truly is one day at a time, and each day gets just a little bit easier.

I am so grateful for my sobriety, and cannot think of a better gift for you to give yourself for 2017.

Looking forward to seeing each of you here, and folllowinf your journey.

❤️Delilah

Ican- just share, read and post. IT is that simple. No obligations, no contracts and it is yours absolutely free- 24/7. There is so much info if you look- resources, information, specialised threads. From making a recovery plan, to dealing with weekends. Keep looking, sharing and posting. All threads (except for gender specific ones) are open for all to read and learn from. So check out the different 'class of' groups from different years- the stories and narratives are from real people, who all had a day 1. Having a 'home group' is great. You get to grow and learn from others who have joined in now- something real and important.
Welcome to all. Just passing (again- it is new years day after all) I hope you all give SR a go. It is a safe and welcoming community.
