"One day at a time" has always been too much for me. I face down temptations on a second-to-second basis. A second is a long, slow time to think about drinking...

My job is cleaning hotel rooms. One day, a half bottle of vodka rolled out from under a piece of furniture I moved while vacuuming. My first thought was what I usually think when I find booze while cleaning rooms: I don't drink and this stuff is trash (somebody's lips might have touched it). I poured the vodka down the drain. But then, for some reason, I decided to pick up the piece of furniture and lo-and-behold there was another, full bottle of vodka stuck underneath it! Now my AV started playing tricks on me. Over the span of a few seconds! I'm always vigilant.

That's quite a temptation to resist, Coldfusion! Good thing you were able to arrest the temptation, even after you picked up the chair! It shows all those accumulated seconds of practice and discipline!

Morning gang,

I've woken up in a real funk this morning and i'm not entirely sure why. Its the first one i've had in 3.5 weeks of sobriety though so I can't complain too much. I tend to always struggle a bit at this time of the year. New Year especially brings back to my mind past events I'd rather not think about. I certainly won't drink over it, but I can feel its already helping just to write it down and get it out there.

On the other hand, i'm looking forward to the extended weekend and football match tonight

Morning everyone! Welcome to the new folks and those just jumping on.

BringingBack... It is good to talk it out. Glad you are trying to work through the low point, Low points still happen quite often. I found it interesting to see how my normal highs and low were living sober. I know my sober patterns now and accept thats just me.

Hope your head feels better soon Petals.

Cold pic Sao!!!

All white this morning. I got only 4.5 inches of snow while less than a mile away got a foot. That snow rain line was tight with this storm. Most interior sections got between a foot and a half and over 2 feet. Ski resorts are going to be busy this holiday!

Cold Fusion... Good work on cleaning under the furniture. Glad you did not give in. Moment to moment.

Hi All and I'm in! Great intro Ken.

I made a NY resolution years ago to never make another one.....it's the only one I've been able to keep

On a more serious note....this will be my first NY sober. 22 days sober for me today and I am so joyously grateful for those 22 little miracles.

The fact that it is NY's eve will not be a problem for me, I never needed an excuse to drink so it has always been 'just another day'. I never made it to midnight because I just drank in my usual fashion and was asleep (passed out) by 930. It will, however, be another day that I will not drink, 'just for today'.

My plan is an AA meeting in the morning, and another in the evening if I need it.

Wishing you all safe, happy and sober celebrations as we bring in the new year.

xx

I made a mistake and I feel incredibly foolish.
Remember that PHD student I wrote about in the other thread?
He turned out to be an absolute wanker. I often wonder about some of these people who are clearly very intelligent but they are also extremely cold and clinical.
Either way I'm back to feeling like a lonely loser...again.
