What's your size? New Year's Weekender 16 - 17
Thanks for the thread, Ken!
I'll catch up on everything a little later.
Last night we went to my wife's company holiday party. Lots of booze, and people were getting pretty loud. At one point I thought I might have to leave, but I got up for a moment and then was okay...
I'm off to the dump now--getting rid of a bunch of stuff that can't go out on the regular trash collection.

I did a whole lot of one day at a time in the beginning months and years.
I even went so far as to tell myself that I will someday drink again, even if it was many years down the road.
Eventually, many many months gone, I found myself thinking that I, in fact, am a non-drinker now. I no longer grieve the loss. I don't need to hang onto the thought of maybe.
And when I do find myself wistful, or thinking wouldn't that be lovely, I just have to play the tape forward.
It takes time, but peace of mind comes.
Good to see you ColdFusion!!! Been awhile!
I was recently at a wedding where I saw people deteriorate. First real big family event for me sober. I was not amused by the display.

I was a little worried you were asking my waist size.
Size of sobriety. Hm. Good twist, Ken.
In early days I just wanted to make it through the day. Then it was to a week. Then a month. Then a year. By the time I was at a year I was very comfortable being a non-drinker. The spinny/obsessive thinking was way in the rear view mirror.
I do remember how raw and miserable I was - especially in the first couple or three weeks of sobriety. That right there keeps me from getting too big for my britches. . .and we're back to my waist size.
I'll be watching Phantom of the Opera on NY Eve. Probably have some brie, fruit, crusty bread and a ribeye for the last hurrah before the food deprivation begins again. I may even have a vegetable.

Love the Maine news.
Coming from the New York market I am used to slick clean performances (usually). They cut to a field reporter who you can barely see due to snow coming down so hard and with a truck overturned in the back ground. He interviews a dim witted looking gentleman who was the driver of the doomed vehicle. Reporter asks "so how are the road conditions at the moment?" Even the dim wit looked at him funny and kind of hesitated.
LMAO Love it! I just had to share that. I am still laughing at the exchange!

Some new and not so new faces on the thread, welcome to all of you
I saw some extended, mostly younger family members over Christmas and not one of them drank. They seemed to have fewer vices than I did

I'm in too and liking your road condition story Ken.
The weather forecasters here in the UK are famous for 'Sunshine and Showers' or 'Cloudy but a bright day'...
My first sober NYE in ages and I' m going out but driving so I will be safe.
In Germany they say Guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr, translated A good slide into the new year for all of you!

On the contrary, I'm pleased to say I celebrated Christmas 2016 at home, with 272 days of sobriety 😀
I'm in!!!! Not sure I even signed up for the last weekender but am still alive and well and counting the days!
Wife, Dogs and I are staying in NYE and probably making some appetizers and watching a few movies. Who knows?
Have a PLAN and be safe this holiday weekend........
