The Grand Old Weekender July 15th Part 1
The Grand Old Weekender July 15th Part 1
Addiction has never left us. It's nothing new to this generation. We like to own things or claim the modern day for our troubles. But every day previous was considered modern and they were addicted.
Where the heck is weasel coming from today? Has he finally lost it? Why yes... Probably.
I have been stuck in the past. No not mine. Dowton Abby. There I said it. I have an addiction to this damn show. I woke late this morning cuz I was up late watching the darn thing and I had dreams of the period. But when I see them drinking in the show I am reminded that addiction existed then.
Yesterday evening after work I walked the west end of Portland. Streets and smaller allies with magestic and grand old homes. Most with names of some sort on the plaque out front. Again I was thinking about how old addiction is.
What's all this got to do with the weekenders? Nothing. Just I wanted to share. Guess it's time to post before I get any more texts. HeHeHe
Welcome to everyone! Welcome to the grand old weekender!!!
Jump on the sober bus!

well, I decided to not 'lurk' - lunar - and looked at another thread. Then I come back... lunar was waiting to open the door for you weasel, nice guy that he is.
I think we live in an addictive society as a whole. One telltale sign is the kids walking around all day with their noses pointed at the screen of their cell phones. And fakebook is another addiction. MrsLB spends 'time' on it.
This thread is my addiction.
I think that as long as we choose our 'addictions' carefully, and not become too obsessed, we'll be okay. A part of that current societal addiction is the desire to be needed or a part of something. We are herd animals after all...

like I've done in the past.
After many hours of precise
calculations and averaging, including the sunrise/sunset
charts; since Weasel and I live in the same time zone-----
my calculations predicted todays weekender popping up at precisely Five-thirty-three and 42 seconds.
I'm in!
Woke up earlier than usual because my dog barked to be let out at 4:45. Thought maybe I could get back to sleep, but no. Laid awake thinking about my speech. I'm not ready, but I will be. No choice, really.
Then I said to myself, "self! It's Thursday! New thread day!" So here I am. I think addiction is almost as old as society. We just have more awareness and labels and research now. Think about England and its gin craze of the early 1700's, for example. A virtual epidemic of extreme drunkenness. Cheap booze, widely available, and boom - a nation in trouble. We have more choices now, and society tells us lies about it being "cool" to drink. That message is everywhere, it's pervasive. No wonder so many people start drinking as teens, when fitting in and being cool is of utmost importance. Normal people can have their cocktail or glass of wine on occasion with no issues. Good for them. Addicts are not so fortunate.
Ok I'm rambling.

Argh! KILL THE HOTKEYS!!!
Whole post typed and bang, gone.
Anyway, congrats to lunar for shotgun. I was actually up but already working so I missed it I'll know to be watching on Thursday mornings from now on.
Trying to get up to 40 hrs a week so my boss can go to mgmt and tell them how ridiculous it is and that we should just go back to my salary. The odd thing is when you're tracking time you can be at the office for 40 hours but the actual time you're physically doing something is probably 75% of that. On that basis they should be paying me a salary but oh well.
MLD, I hear you, I'm sure it's because we're hypersensitive to it but I never noticed how much alcohol is on the tube. Want to be happy? Have a drink! Just got some bad news? Have a drink! End of a long day at work? Have a drink! Realistically speaking normies can do what they want and we can't. However, alcohol is definitely pushed. Can you even imagine if prohibition ever happened again? What a thought.
Weasel, I'm another Netflix binger. We recently started watching the Preacher and I had to step away from that one. Not into gore over the top for shock value. Looking forward to Homeland and Shameless as I've missed out when we got rid of Showtime.
I just can't keep up with you peeps on here. I noticed that the weekender thread continues on for the week until the new one starts. My thinking is always here though

I'll let you all know, the bidding starts at 100 dollars - "compare at $540"
I'm just ramblin too
