Hi,
came across this site by chance.
I'd describe myself as functioning but fed up. Its been a long road but I'd really like a new path. I love the way booze takes the edge off, makes me feel, but I'm fed up with the rest of it. In the morning I'm never drinking again, come the evening I'm thinking I'll start tomorrow.
Don't know if you can help me but its got to be worth a shot.

Great to meet you, wantingpeace.
I let myself go past that point. I knew long before I quit that it was making my life miserable. I kept trying to find the old enjoyment I once got from it. As a result, my life fell apart. I'm glad you're heeding the warning signs. You can do it!

Hi wantingpeace, welcome. You'll find kindred souls here. Can't tell you how many times I told myself I'll "start tomorrow." Well, "tomorrow" finally came and I'm 8 months sober. It's so nice not feeling like crap in the morning! Hang around and read some posts.
Welcome WP.
I hope you follow through. There's obviously some motivation behind searching online for help.
Drinking is progressive. We are also very good at functioning and holding together the life we have. But unfortunately our ability to do that is not as progressive. Alcohol has an infinite ability to slowly tear down normalcy.
For the longest time it's progression is barely noticeable, if at all. But there comes a point where it explodes in growth. And by then, your in real trouble.
I too ride that train too far and lost everything.
While your Google searching alcoholism, pay close attention to how it causes anxiety. It's a vicious cycle. We drink to feel calm, then we become more and more anxious when sober.
We spend years training ourselves that alcohol is the best and quickest way to relax, or celebrate, or socialize. The list goes on and on. Over and over we train ourselves.
We all deserve the best life possible and be as happy as we can. Constantly consuming a depressant, which is all that alcohol is, holds us back from our full potential. It's like driving a car with the parking brake on.
Do it. Remove alcohol from your life and let yourself move forward in life at full speed.
