Not waking up at 3:15 a.m. sweating, hating myself, and being terrified.

Being 100% present and taking charge of my life. I'm in control, not alcohol. I am no longer a prisoner, I am free!

Very new in to this, but viewing the world and life through clear eyes, a clear head and choosing my own path. Not it choosing me.

I'm early in recovery. There is not a lot of joy at this point in things. In fact, it's quite difficult to feel anything.

But I gotta say one thing that I can feel is this kind of spiritual magneticism that reaffirms me when I am thinking about doing positive behaviors. When I begin drifting into negativity, the spiritual comfort disappears. Sorry for being so obtuse but I'm not sure how else to describe it.

Oh, and don't fall into the trap of drinking to kill boredom! That one nearly got me.
Drinking to kill boredom took me down too

And I love all the possibilities ahead of me, instead of just feeling trapped by alcohol that vicious binge cycle I've been in for years.

Being present. Truly present, no matter where I am or what I am doing.

I enjoyed folding clothes last night.... who does that? A grateful sober person I suppose.

I've always held my health in pretty high regard, although my actions were not always compatible with that. The feeling of being "pure" is the greatest benefit I've experienced. I know that sounds selfish, but its true. For the most part, the only thing that was getting destroyed by my drinking was me.

The very first reward of my sobriety this time is being able to sleep through an entire night without interruption and waking up feeling refreshed instead of miserable. That makes the whole rest of my day go better as well. Sobriety is the gift that keeps on giving.

Confidence! It's back. And better than ever. By working through obstacles, I'm learning I can make it through anything that comes my way as long as I stay sober.
