Need some support

Spending the afternoon cooking, I used to get wine and cook all afternoon on weekends sometimes.
I'm kinda talking myself into how delightful it would be to do that.
Talk to me!!!

I can relate.

It sounds like this could be one of your triggers.

I am finding that I need to change my routine or usual way of doing things.

You will always feel better without the alcohol. Hang in there.

Reading, dance, outdoors! I enjoy cooking I just don't like the clean up part. The cook should not clean.

Hey Js! Fast forward to tomorrow morning. Drinking wine all day is NOT what you want to do, sister! This is where you've got to change your habit. Drink something else...something special, while you cook. Pretty soon, that will become the new norm.

I think it is a bit of a trigger, I haven't really done it this summer because I was too busy, and it was to hot to have the stove on all day.
I was trying to cook all day today so I have food prepared for the week so I don't eat badly; I'll just have to push through, the craving and mind games are starting to pass though.

Thanks. Brynnilyn.
You're right, drinking wine all day is not a good idea, despite what my AV says.
Good idea, I'll use this time to create a new routine when I cook

I was just talking with someone about how cooking and drinking used to go together for me, and how I haven't done it like I used to since quitting. I have started back doing those marathon cooking sessions on Saturday afternoons again and I don't miss not having the alcohol.
While you get sober time under your belt, maybe try focusing on your other interests and do quick and easy recipes that don't conjure up cravings for including the ritual of drinking.

Hi Jen,

Brynn is right, you don't want "oh no" that feeling tomorrow. Definitely buy yourself something exotic but non alcoholic to drink

I felt just this way last night, js! But like Gnik said, I think once you get some more sober time and more experiences cooking without the drinking,
It will get easier.

That's what I was hoping, that it'll eventually turn into a new normal without alcohol.
Thanks xx

Thanks guys, I made it through the cooking, then I made it through the fishing this evening.
I usually don't post before, so this was really helpful

Hi js,

Man I have sooooo been there! Glad you got through it. I am also a foodie, and spend a good deal of energy getting and preparing food. My old Sunday routine was getting up to cook brunch, turn on npr (public radio) and start "sugu" (Italian sauce). I always put wine in the sugu, added it around 1:00. So it was late enough to have a sip riiight?

Oh yeah I totally get the connection between cooking and alcohol.

The up side is it gets easier, and I totally enjoy cooking to npr without the booze. I don't put wine in my sugu anymore, either, and we all still love it.

Keep it up. You'll be fine. You're doing great!!!
