Why?

I will admit that I am drinking. I got a call about 2 hours ago that my cousin killed himself by hanging from a tree. I am beyond sad. FML

AF you have had a tough run with your familys health. Do you think by drinking it will help their health or yours at all? Stay the course. Grieve sober. Hope you can find some gratitude and sober clarity!

I'm very sorry for your news AF.
As painful as it is, think about your own well being.

Please put the bottle down.

I could never really truly grieve while I was drinking. It just masked the sadness and took away all the memories and feelings. It was only when I got sober that I could finally mourn my losses.
I am sorry for your loss, Artfriend.
I wish you peace.

You have had more than your share of losses, so true, sweetheart.

But you can grieve soberly; unaltered grief is more complete.

We are here for you.

I never thought I could grieve sober either - the pain seemed SO immense - but I found I was capable of far more than I realised.

I just needed to give myself the chance.

Drinking while grieving means not coping with anything AF - the wound remains open and sore and it's still there when we sober up.

I really really hope you'll decide to deal with this in a better healthier way because it's a major step in learning to live sober and getting through our grief.

Take it easy, Art. Maybe it's best to call some family, even if you're not close with them. Brew a cup of coffee and talk to someone, maybe a friend if you're family's not available. It's so unfortunate that your cousin has passed, and we are sorry for your loss. All the best.
