What keeps you moving forward?

Something I've been thinking about lately. What keeps you moving forward in life? We all need something larger than ourselves to continue pushing ourselves in this life. There's not many people out there selfish enough to be able to do everything just for themselves.

We all need something we care about more than ourselves, in order to be the best we can be. Well, at least for many (the majority?) of us that's true. What is it for you? Spouse, kids, volunteering, a work project that will revolutionize the way we currently live our lives, saving the environment, what?

EDIT: Ugh, I can't edit the post title. Your = You.

I find life is pretty darn tolerable, even great sometimes without drinking and debilitating, daily hangovers. I find that planning highlights like concerts every few months really helps to break up the daily grind. I get down sometimes but I'm really looking forward to seeing Bette Midler next month!!!!! Wahoo!!!!

Life moves forward whether we like it or not, I am just trying to make the best use of my time here.

I can't believe so much time I had been wasting in a drunk in fog, I cherish the clarity that comes with sobriety even if it's not all good.

My kids, and especially my furkids. My dogs and cats are very important to me. Staying sober ensures I'll be able to give them good care.

Just being alive is motivating

Husband, dogs, cats, writing, reading, yard work (flowers!), home improvement stuff, my work online, outdoor concerts, kayaking at the lake, running on the trails in town, the dog park, and travel.

She may not realize it, but my wife probably saved my life. Things aren't perfect with us, but when I get in a state where I seem beyond caring, I try to take care of myself for her.

I'm pretty high energy person and self motivated. I just like to accomplish as much as I can. I always have a project around the house, something to do with my children or an athletic endeavor to train for.

Its nice that alcohol doesn't interfere with these things any more. I wonder how I ever did anything with so much of my life centered around drinking.

The hope of being a loving & dedicated father for my kids as they face life. And the fear of becoming an abusive and dangerous addict like my parents.

I like healthy sleep and learning.

Neither of those things happened when I was binge drinking. The sleep wouldn't happen and I would be a zombie when I was conscious.

I find it comforting to think about how life will keep going whether I'm paying attention to it or not.

During my worst moments and deepest depressions, I feel significantly better when I remind myself that everything I'm experiencing is temporary.

Nothing lasts. On the surface, this may seem a little sad in itself, but it really keeps me grounded and appreciative of the good in my life.

When I want to give up I think about how much my daughter loves, and needs me. It makes me want to push forward for her. There's nothing in this world I can't get through if I have that sweet little smile looking up at me.
