roller coaster day

Morning started off tough. Had to deal with a jerk. No problem so far. Things went better after that. Nice people. Then ended up having to deal with people with real nasty attitudes. Now I'm thinking about drinking, Later on, had some nice interactions and things looked up. No thoughts of drinking. Had some fun times with a few people, so all is good. Ended the day with a bunch of people with nasty attitudes . Had to do with honesty and trust. Kinda lost it with them. They didn't get it why I was so upset. To them stealing and dishonesty is a way of life. To me, values and ethics are priorities. Even when I drank, these things were priorities, although I didn't always follow them. The Serenity Prayer helps a lot with this, but sometimes a time out is needed, so I drank. John

Everyday will have ups and downs. Drinking will not change that. All you can do is ride out the bad times, and wait for something good to happen again, because it always does. Just because you drank tonight does not mean you have to keep doing it though. Do not let it get in your head that since you drank today you might as well drink tomorrow. Wake up tomorrow, and start over.

Sorry to hear that John. There's a lot of better ways to take time out other than drinking as you know, hope you can dump out what you have and get some rest. Tomorrow is a new day.

I'm not worried. Just a bump in the road. I'm a survivor and will get through this. Not making light of this but I know me and I've been through a lot worse than this and know I will come out on top.
I know some people on this forum will support me and I appreciate it very much. But let's face it guys, when the day is done, all you have is you. It's the inner strength that really makes the difference. Strength comes from within, not from the outside. It's kinda like lifting weights. Other people can encourage you to lift those weights saying you can do more, but the bottom line is you have to lift those weights, even when nobody's around.
Alcoholism is a lonely place sometimes, and it's important for an alcoholic to be prepared for those times. Self reliance is essential for any alcoholic. Like the Serenity Prayer says, it is the what it is. John

I found that there's a lot about myself that I wasn't even aware of until I allowed other people to help me. There's a significant amount of insight and wisdom to learn from others.

I'm sorry you drank too John.

The way I see it is there will always be jerks conmen and bad asses out there.
They can't steal my serenity - unless I let them.

think about how you could have handled this better...posting here, ringing someone from AA, go for a walk or a run...?

get back on track John

That's both true and untrue tho John.
You have support here around the clock, for example.

But even if your internet and phone are out and you're housebound for whatever reason...you still always have more than yourself to rely on if you have a good strong and flexible recovery plan.

whats your recovery plan like John?
whats the protocol for days like today?

I'm crying right now, not because I drank, but because of the responses I've got. I feel alone sometimes. Trying not to feel sorry for myself, but alone is alonel John

I have much to be grateful for. Life is good. Asked someone at an AA meeting if he needed to talk. Out of my comfort zone but I did it. Not looking for applause, just saying, This is hard. John

Hey John ,
sorry to hear how things went .

A wise man once told me , "up's and down's will happen it's how we deal with them that counts" .

There are better ways than drinking ,

It will be a new dawn and a new day soon , we get to try again and do the next right thing .

Take care , m

Well, I usually go to the gym but just went home because I was just tired of being around people, They are usually the source of my problem.

If people are the source of your problem, yet you feel lonely and alone...that's quite an insoluble problem John.

Maybe your addiction likes it that way?

The challenge for me in Sobreity was developing new tools for the toolbox of life.

The quick fix of alcohol was something I always used when dealing with stress or bad events, but we can't keep going back to it, we need to find new ways of coping.

It can be done!!
