Relapsed after 4 months :(

I haven't been here in a while because I relapsed and was too ashamed to admit it. I'm mad at myself, confused and don't know what to do.

Guilt of lying that I'm sober is too much of a burden and I'm telling you dear SR community. Also told my family tonight.

Relapsed last week for 4 days, but it was awful, didn't like being high on Methadone, don't wanna lose my sober progress and definitely don't wanna go through withdrawals ever again.

I live in a backward country with no AA or other meetings, no support, counselors are expensive. But I have you guys and from now on I'm staying closer and being more active.

You also have yourself Placebo. What changes can you make to help you stay sober?

I'm so glad you are here and that you're back.
I know the feeling of the guilt behind relapsing only too well. It can't stop us from being honest and getting help. Keeping things in and holding onto the guilt would only lead me to drink again.
I have been reminding myself...one sober honest day at a time...the guilt will fade.
Best wishes!

Placebo - Never hesitate to tell what's going on. Most everyone has had that experience. You learned something - and now you'll be even more determined to do this.

You know what I did after I relapsed after 5 months?

I got sober.

And you know what?

That was over a year ago.

And you know what else?????

My life is a lot better and I'm really grateful for sobriety and loving it.

SO.....

You can do that too, if you want.

It's great that you've come back, Placebo.

Even if you can't get to meetings where you live, there are a lot of resources. There's the chat room with chat meetings on SR, and there are AA speaker tapes and various kinds of resources available online that can help you build a sobriety plan.

It helped me a lot to structure my day around my recovery -- I still check in here morning, noon, and night -- literally. And other activities too -- ask/look around on SR to find out what other people do and try their suggestions, lots of them, and you'll find you've built yourself a program.

I know you can do this!

Failing at something does not mean you are a failure. Failure is only when you give up on yourself and stop trying.

I've said this before but it's worth saying it again here. Thomas Edison was once asked what it felt like to fail at making a light bulb thousands of times. He responded, "I have not failed. On the contrary, I have successfully found thousands of ways NOT to make a light bulb".
