First Friday

Well, last night was my first Friday in almost 20 years that I was stone cold sober. Although I have always drank through the week I have seen Friday as my 'total relax and drink far too much night'. I have always relied on being able to sleep it off the following morning. I spent last night aimlessly roaming into the kitchen for a drink and coming back out with another smoothie or glass of tomato juice. I think that I must have consumed my whole week's portions of fruit; half a litre of strawberry and banana smoothie followed by three glasses of tomato juice, and then two glasses of mineral water oddly my system feels fine today.

I haven't been sleeping well and it is taking ages to get off to sleep. I am distracted, light headed, and still very itchy.

I am going out tonight to my neighbours and taking a bottle of mineral water with me.

It is the hours before going to bed that are difficult as I am so used to always having a G&T or glass of wine in front of me. I am losing my focus during these hours and wandering.

Thanking you all for accepting me into your group.

Tartan

Day 5 is fab, everything you are experiencing I felt exactly the same, itchy ness especially at night whilst trying to sleep and generally feeling very uneasy, but it does fade in time as your body and mind adjusts.

Excellent progress being made and you should be very proud of that.
Take care
Stuart.

Thanks for all of your advice. I have just got back from my neighbours and although they all drank alcohol I had absolutely no desire to join them, I drank a bottle of mineral water.

Feeling quite pleased with myself and so glad I can talk to you all about it. I haven't been able to talk about my problem to anyone other than my husband.

I know that there is a bottle of sherry in the kitchen and a few minutes ago I did think about getting it. The thought of spoiling my 5 DAYS has so far stopped me. I am in my work-room, not tired, still itchy but I am going to get busy working on things.

5 days! You will never have to go through this again. It get's better. It's way easier staying sober than getting sober. you reminded me what it's like the first week. It sucks. But we all had to go through it. I need these reminders so I won't pick up another drink. Thank you and congratulations on 5 days.

Welcome Tartan - great to have you here with us.

I remember feeling very strange those first few days. It was our way of life for so long. Everything gets easier and better as we get used to the new us.

Great job on day 5 and being strong. The weekends are difficult but it's inspiring to see you getting through it and thinking ahead with the mineral water.

Nope, I didn't give in. I told my hubby this morning that I had been tempted by the sherry and he reminded me that it was cooking sherry. Apart from the cooking sherry there is no alcohol in the house. Any booze left over from Christmas was drank by me in January!!!!

Well done on 5 days, Tartan - and for dodging the cooking sherry too!

Sounds like you're doing brilliantly and your body will definitely be happy with all that water!

Aw well done!!!! That's fantastic. I could have written that post my first Friday (Infact I probably did)... Think I wore holes in the floor. Friday was always my favourite night too as it was more guilt free and would consciously let myself drink more (though realistically other nights weren't much different). Get exactly where ur coming from though. Fridays are still one of the hardest but bit by bit the mental connection will start to reduce and you'll never have the 'first' Friday again!! Do something nice for yourself to celebrate your first week xx

Thanks to all of you. It is 19 past midnight and I have to get up for work in about 6 hours. Not remotely tired and still itchy. Sitting here with a tomato juice thinking about how to persuade myself to go to bed and more importantly go to sleep.

Good luck to all of you that find yourself in a similar position.
