Spartan Green,
You're wise not to ignore that *gut feeling*.

We never drank on long hauls from the gulf coast. Driving dirty without any trouble created the very same illusion for me , for years. You very well probably are a better drunk driver than most, but......
It's ultimately an exercise in futility.

You know this stuff already though. You've already expressed you have more reasons to quit outside of the potential for legal and financial challenges.

Go with your gut feeling on this one.

The freedom I feel in sobriety is second to none, ...and will be for you also.

Don't worry about showing up for a meeting late, you can even stay in back and be quiet, then leave early if you still feel chicken. Just GO and give it a try!

Thanks for the post. It was really happy for me to see a trucker respond here. I think I'm about to make a drastic change and go OTR, for the increased income but mostly for the huge change in my life.

I am currently disqualified from driving on a DUI.
Cost me - $13k costs
- job
- 100 hrs community service
- 4 weeks of state counselling (lady tells you to drink water between your drinks)
- traffic offenders program
- 15 months disqualified and unemployable
And nobody reaches down and helps you/tells you anything new. (Except that a second offence will see you do time)

THIS is such an a awesome thread with such wisdom. SPARTAN ~ so glad you are here. I hope you choose to stay with us on THIS side of the nightmare of drinking. SR is always here for any of us at any time. Also, the face to face meetings are valuable for me.

I work in the transportation industry and a DUI will permanently end your professional driving career. I hope you choose the right path.
