Does both a want and a need to be sober have to occur to be successful?

Yes, I think the desire to quit must come along with feeling the need to. I knew I needed to for many years, but until I wanted to.. desperately, I was still drinking. I think it's sort of like the interest versus commitment difference seen in a lot of life changes.
