What do you drink instead of an alcoholic drink that isn't unhealthy?
Hello,
I think that I'm on a steady path to recovery but my main problem seems to be that I like to have a drink of something at night when watching television. It doesn't have to have alcohol in it, I just need to have the feeling that I'm drinking something. That may seem strange I know. Lol.
My question is what can I drink that isn't too fattening? I don't want to give up alcohol and pile on a lot of weight.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Bruno.

I'm partial to Sleepytime herbal tea at night, but if I'm thirsty, I love strawberry lemonade, with fresh strawberries sliced into it. Root beer floats, made with diet A&W and vanilla frozen yogurt are yummy too. Then of course that substance that is mother's milk to me...Diet Coke.
I don't drink anything 'instead' of alcohol. I have changed my routine more or less completely so as not to find myself with time on my hands in the evening - time I used to fill in front of the TV with a bottle or two of wine. I find that way I am not substituting wine with anything and creating the possibility of missing it.
If I am thirsty in the evening I have whatever is in the fridge.

I drink Coke Zero. It is my new favorite drink. I get the sweet without the calories.
I also find I need something to drink, not because I am replacing anything, I just have always been that way. I have to have something to drink in the car, at work, at a meeting, when I watch TV or sit outside and when I go to bed. I guess I just hate being thirsty...lol
I was not worried about my health or weight when I was drinking so I did not worry about it when I quit. I drink no or low calorie Coke because I never liked super sweet stuff and the regular soda was a turn off. Now I like sweet but even regular Coke is too sweet.
I found that after I stopped drinking I lost weight. I think half was removing all the empty calories from the booze and the other was not stuffing my face with a ton of food when I was drunk and ready to pass out.
