this is hard

this sucks
its only a habit but i am finding it hard as hell and this is only day one
its 2:55pm and this is the longest i have gone with out a drink sad but true
i have a pounding headache and i feel hot and then cold .. like im sick i guess ... and on top of that my phone wont shut up with calls from friends wanting to do the mid day drink
so i unplugged the damn thing shut the curtains and locked the doors
im gonna get through this day no matter what and im going to get through tomorrow
this place is amazing reading other peoples posts again makes you feel not alone

but although its only day one i am finding it hard but i am going to keep hope because nothing is impossible and i am going to make this change
i only hope the days get better with time and this headache isn't going to be a repeat thing

I don't know how much you drank and for how long, but be careful as you are detoxing. You now see yourfull blown physical dependency. Lots of fluids, eat light, dont forget that booze has tons of sugar, so you need to replace that with either a bit of candy or fruit too.

If this was easy...Sites like this wouldn't exist. My simple advice to you...Would be checking with your doctor...Tell him honestly what your situation is...And that you want to stop. Do some reading...Ask some questions...Find a plan for your recovery...And give it all you got. I wasted a lot of time trying to figure this thing out on my own...You don't need to.

elite - day 1 is never fun but day 2 is actually better. It sounds like you are having withdrawal symptoms which is quite common (I'm living proof). Best recommendation is seeing your doctor or if it gets to bad to hit the ER as there are drugs that will combat these symptoms.

I can't offer any medical advise except keep drinking lots of water and try some fresh fruit if you have any on hand.

Since it is Sunday if you are in the US, call the doc tomorrow if you are feeling worse. Today, occupy yourself and think how will be prepared to keep your sobriety commitment, don't overwhelm yourself, but realize what is happening to your body. Its part of what keeps me wanting to be sober.
You will start to feel better soon.

Elite, this IS hard. But if you really think about it drinking is harder. I echo the comments concerning contacting a doctor. A week ago I was walking & talking just fine but not feeling fine. Went to the hospital with a .386 BAC, a step from a coma. Please take your detox seriously!

And it is one day at a time. It's difficult but just take 1 minute, 1 hour and 1 day at a time. Whatever works for you.

Remember that you were brave enough to post your message. That's a HUGE step! Use the support.

With you in support & recovery.

i got the water thing down
i did try to eat before but it ended up in the trash
as for how much i drink to be honest this is what i worked out
i tried to work it out because i am going to see my doc tomorrow after work
this sucks to admit this but here we go

monday - friday ( work ) start @8:30
awake at 6:30am ... grab a quick drink at 7:30ish ( crown royal ... then wash my mouth out with mouth wash )
pack 4 beers in my lunch bag ... and keep another 4 in the car
come home shower and grab another beer
clean and then grab another one .. typicality i will grab a sandwich when i get home as i don't eat in work then put the tv on and drink some more
end of the night drink 3 bottles of water and some Advil

sat - sunday ( days off )
usually i dont sleep the friday night
so i continue to drink from the firday after work until i pass out on Saturday
when i wake up depending on how i feel i will keep going
sunday i usually have friends over and i keep going

what i got so far is the following ... and this is just my last weeks intake from what i remember and the beer store receipts no idea about what i drank at the bar due to black out

96 coors lite ... / 20+ budwiser / 15 stella / vodka 1 & half bottles ( 1.75ltr ) ... crown royal 2 bottles 1ltr / white rum 1 bottle 1.75ltr

i am sickened by the amount i drink .. it never seems that much while i am drinking

but i am going to see the doctor and i know he is going to ask how much i drink .. so i am just going to be honest

Thumbs up

There was no way I could/can have a drink
of poison if it is not in my home. As long as it is
far away from my reach, then I have time to
use some of those recovery tools in my program
to help me not go out and drink.

It's a good time for putting into action
what Ive come to learn each day from
many of those fellow members who have
stayed sober a many one days at a time.

Like going to school to learn different subjects,
so it is with learning all you can about alcoholism
and how it affects you and others around you.
Listen, read, absorb, remain teachable and it
will get easier for you to stay sober as time goes
on.

It's not just not drinking any longer, but rather
it's learning to live sober each day. Learning to
face the world and all it throws at us without
using alcohol to numb us in order to deal with
them.

It can be done as I have been living a sober
program for 22 yrs now as I continue on my
recovery journey looking forward to what may
lye ahead of me around the corner.

Not much different than what my last 2 years of drinking were like...After drinking for 35 years...It almost killed me. It was a huge relief for me to get honest...Nothing left to hide. Good luck tomorrow...And hang in there.

Ok thanks for being honest. We are not allowed to give medical advice here, but please go to ER if you start to feel shakey or lightheaded. Is there someone you can call to check on you? Or stay with you?

You need to be absolutely honest with your doctor, they are there to help you safely detox, not judge you.
I am guessing you are a larger weight person, not a small female?

I'm glad you're going to see the doctor tomorrow elite. You just have to rid all the alcohol from your house if you haven't done so already and get through tomorrow's day at work. It's a long road but you can do it if you're determined!

I confess that my morning routine before work was drinking a beer before the shower then puking in the shower.....proceeding to pack my cooler with beers to drink on the way to work and at work. Of course it never stopped there and continued until I passed out that evening.

BTW - I sent you a PM

You may feel a bit worse later tonight. The lower GI thing is pretty common, i had it too, along with the night sweats. Maybe try some chickenbroth or lipton soup, the salt might calm your stomach.

Hi elite. You already have great advice. I'd like to say congratulations on arriving at this life saving decision. You will be saving yourself so much grief down the line. I'm glad you're going to be honest with your doctor - that's the only way.

I drank huge amounts at the end of my career, too. The really miserable withdrawals were over in about 3 days. Once it's over, you never have to return to hell. Be proud of yourself, and keep posting - we care.

Best of luck elite. As said above being honest with your doctor is the most important thing. They have heard stories like yours many times you can be sure, they are NOT going to judge you, no matter what you tell them. This was a big step for me when I finally came clean about it with him, and it dawns on you that they aren't going to shake their head or anything or make you feel embarrassed about it, they want to help.

You can do it Elite!

See your doc, though. I white knuckled it through the first 2 days before seeing my doctor, and day 2 was EXPONENTIALLY WORSE than day 1.

Hang in there!
