This is how I'm thinking about it too.

I still find it a bit hard to believe that having the occasional beer at social occasions is a big deal, but I do know that I was in a pretty bad place around last April to December, with occasional respites, and I have no interest in going back there.

Well, I stopped drinking two months ago (give or take), had a glass of wine with friends about two weeks in though it didn't go any further, and had a month and a half sober after that until yesterday...
