Starting Today

Apparently I'm not doing something right with posts. Don't seem to get any replies. Today is Day #1 and don't want to keep posting stuff that goes into cyberspace, lol! Will somebody talk to me, please?

Hi 427

sometimes this place can seem a little immense initially...but noones ignoring you

so far, you've posted twice in our Class of August - with replies - and once in this thread:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...64888-how.html

it's easy to get lost posting in someone else's thread sometimes...so it's good you've made your own

again....welcome aboard

OK. Gonna try this AGAIN! I'm here because I love tequila. Period. Can drink 1/2 a bottle, sadly. The bottom just fell out and jumped up and slapped me in the face, so here I am. Feel lousy, shameful, guilty, blah, blah, blah, but am gonna try this again (sobriety).

Some people find SR is enopugh - others find they need face to face support like AA, or other recovery methods like SMART.

Others still find AVRT/Rational Recovery useful.

I can give you links if you think recovery programmes might be useful for you.

No matter what you do tho two things are constant IMO - you have be prepared to make changes in your life...sometimes some pretty big sweeping changes...

and you have to be prepared to reach out for support when you need it.

We can all do this...but in my experience very few of us do this alone, y'know?

Yeah, I'm not good at reaching out. I'm usually the one being reached to.... Not crazy about AA, but would be interested the other groups, definitely. This is great, too. DO feel like I'd like to have face-to-face "options" though. Have several friends in recovery but they're out-of-state. So yeah, if you could send the links I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

here you go

There's many different approaches and methods of recovery around - here's some links to some of the main players, including but not limited to AA:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html

I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a non 12 step approach like SMART (which, although not as widespread as AA, has face to face meetings) and Rational Recovery (which doesn't).

None many of us are good at reaching out at the beginning..but you're making a good start here

There are meetings online here in the Chat Room, too, I think most Friday nights there's one, around eight or nine o'clock maybe? I sat in for one, one time, it was real laid back, should probably hit another sometime soon. Welcome and good fortune

Welcome 427! You will find that timing of posts is everything - some times are busier than others. Great to have you here! Take care.

Hi 427! Proud of you for wanting to reclaim your life - you can do it. I drank my whole life and never thought I could live one day without it - but I'm heading towards 5 yrs. sober.

I was no good at reaching out or asking for help either. Something about SR changed all that. I never thought I'd get to know so many people with my same problems - people who really understood. No one else in my life got it. I hope you'll find hope and encouragement here. You're not alone anymore.

Hi Beetle and bluegem! Welcome to the family.

Hey 427! Chevy man huh? I had to give it up too. For face to face even if you don't like the idea of AA, go to at least one of their bigger meetings or get on their local website as they can tap you into local group and one on one counselors and other resources you might never know about. I also used a medical in hospital detox to get me kick started.

The best advice is to talk plainly to your doc and get him in the loop. Medical Docs are usually not good for advising you other than the medical support options on detox and long term blood-work and anxiety etc support. Most don't need any but be prepared I always say.

Do a lot of reading here and posting. Sometimes it is slow here and other times it is hard to keep up. Look at the top right corner of the page and see if anybody is in chat and who. Then try chat if you want to see how good your typing is it is great. That gets you some real time support and the opportunity to support others.

Don't cross any method off your list until you have tried it especially the non AA methods. I stay away from any that throw stones at others but that is just me. I did use AA for my first three months and got what I needed from them, and from here the rest.

Thanks, Itchy. I'm a female, and just randomly chose that number, lol! Yeah, need to get my booty to some meetings. Am in a fairly small town and I think the only options are AA, but I could be wrong, for sure. This site is really awesome. I just happened to fall upon it by "accident" today. It's nice to be able to get on here at any time and to also get into different discussions.

I'm having trouble w/ the chat, though. Afraid to download anything (not computer savvy!). Any suggestions?

Wow! I just tried it for the first time in awhile and had to load the plug in too. Good news, it is just a Java plug in and safe with a verified digital signature. I just did it and no cooties. Trust me, my system would alarm! I am a tech and fix these 'pooters too. You are wise not to download anything you don't know. This one is safe I think I'll even go see who is there.
