I had my last drink just over 1.5 years ago.
It was a business conference, I drank way too much at dinner, followed by more drinks at a bar/club, woke up the next morning, ordered some room service & 2 bottles of wine for breakfast !..... This followed by more wine at the hotel lobby bar at check-out, more beer/wine at airport bar... Got home hammered that night.
Anyhow, like many of you - I too struggled with staying stopped... Here is what has changed for me :
1. Finally picked up that 24 hour chip in front of people at an AA meeting. Complete defeat, shaky hands, foggy brain, extreme anxiety.
2. Admitted and ACCEPTED that I am powerless over alcohol (true step 1.)
3. CRASHED the remote idea that one day, I too can drink like a normal person. I think this is what kept me in the vicious cycle for good 7 years..
4. Honestly believed that alcohol will ruin it all, and eventually kill me.
5. NEVER question my decision to stop drinking. NEVER.
I invite you newbies to read some of my old posts, it was certainly a struggle with some periods of decent non-drinking....
There is HOPE for AL OF US !!
Please feel free to PM at anytime !!
