I went through a LOT of "YETS." I lost a lot. I was mad at my probation of license for a year, and mad that I "lost" at trial two or so years after my DUI because we wanted to get me off. Apparently, my behavior at the arrest site was WAY worse than I was convinced of once I came down.
Lots of denial, anger, resentment, etc kept me drinking and justifying it a long (LONG) time at great cost to me and others in so many ways. I am so fortunate I never killed anyone or myself- especially the last time I drove drunk....and blew a 0.42 when my parents insisted on taking me to the hospital despite MY assurances I was fine (somehow I didn't get pulled over that night).
That still didn't get me to admit to my alcoholism.
Now I proudly speak up and out as a survivor, no long a victim.
I hope you can work through this anger- all the anger I had was only made WORSE by my kind of drinking, whatever I deemed it to be ("alcoholic" or not). I'll close by saying that IMO so many people don't drink- for various reasons, whether they or anyone else think they are alcoholics....when alcohol begins to damage our lives, possibly careers and families...our health....whatever the label is, those who stop drinking always benefit.
Best to you.

I know this is an old thread and have no clue what 'OASAS' is. However.. I do have experience with dui court stuff. Jail, attny fees, fines, mandatory AA,probation, community service, more classes to pay for, paying more than the norm for getting your DL back, insane(justified)auto insurance costs for several years,ect...ect.. and all I can say is "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". There's a saying among casino dealers(I'm not one,but know many)..and it goes; "dummy up and deal". I suggest anyone that is new in here complaining about their 'unfair punishments' to imagine if you had killed a family while driving intoxicated. Consider yourselves lucky and get what you can from your legitimate punishments. They're not going to coddle you..you broke the law,no matter how high your bac was.

It's not OASAS that is corrupt, its the OASAS providers. In NYS every DWI case requires an OASAS approved evaluation be conducted and the results communicated to the probation dept. If the evaluation indicates "no treatment required", then DMV will reissue your licence back after your probationary period.
Here's the crime...The OASAS approved evaluators understand fully that you NEED them to record a release to DMV. They have NO incentive to give you an all clear..why not require a full year of payments from you for treatment. Imagine the government sending you potential customers and the difference between making lots of money or a few bucks is how long you keep them. They ABUSE that power.
Remember, they use standardized questions which tally a score which in turn allow them to make judgement. They are to determine if you have a SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER.
I would imagine most first time DWI arrests are from people being stupid and do not have a disorder but if you get a DWI the most difficult part of the process is dealing with the corruption of the OASAS treatment centers glutney for your insurance dollars at the expense of your precious time.

When I got a DUI I knew I was alcoholic and didn't want to go to any treatment.
The first screener said I had to so I just found a new one that didn't feel the same way. I just had to pay the fine and spend a couple days in jail.

Uh, .16 is a felony at least where I am from. That is a pretty intoxicated level.

That was me, and I am an alcoholic.
Maybe you are not.
Only time will tell.
