I decided on permanent abstinence for myself and I'm 100% secure in that. Under no circumstance will I ever drink, no exceptions... no changing my mind about it. Deciding and knowing this has brought me peace over my past alcohol problem. I do feel that I've recovered from my past alcoholism... I know that drinking alcohol at any point in time in the future for me will be a wrong choice. It would mean I've decided not to live in reality, not to progress and grow... and I don't want to go backwards.
One day at a time is not good enough, not when your life hangs in the balance. By deciding on a much higher standard for yourself, you have more to lose if you fail, but also far more to gain if you succeed. Keep the bar high, though. Set your confidence level at 100%, recognize all self-doubt, whether internal or external, as the enemy, and you will succeed.
Yay Jennie - doesn't 30 days feel great? I wish I'd been wise enough to know I had to stop all together when I was 35. How different things would have turned out! All your dreams can still come true - you're just getting started.

My jaw dropped Oh wow! Thanks Lionne. And here I was depressed cause I don't have a b-day cake yet. That is just amazingly awesome, and gave me a nice big laugh. :rotfxko

Nicely done, Jennie.

Celebrate without poisoning myself was my answer. Another buzz and tingling sensation.
Well done on 30 days by the way Jennie. I am only 4 days behind you. I'm striving to burn all the bridges to my alcoholic past so that days and months become effortless.

Congratulations on 30 days! For what it's worth, for me, life became better after 40! The 30's were tough-hard to balance reality of life with your younger expectations. I still have a hard time with that, but it got easier as I got older in many ways. Happy Birthday!
