Hello
I came here because I realize it's time to meet other like minded people. I'm on the road to freedom like most of you here. For me, it wasn't any one drug in particular. It basically came down to whatever was there to stay high. As long as I was high-everything was cool. Didn't matter if it was meth, ectasy, weed, alcohol, coke-as long as I could stay high daily it was all good.
I was able to function and have a job and etc. And I realized that I was a functional addict. After deciding I needed to do something and seeking help, I saw that just cause' I could function didnt' mean anything. A lot of chances to do bigger and better things, accomplish more, and really just be happier were all passed by.

Hi and Welcome,
I understand what you mean.
I spent a few years drinking, and I guess I functioned, but I sure wasn't living. When I look back at it, I feel like I wasted so much time. I am glad that you are beginning to recover.

51anna you said it perfectly. It's not really living, just maintaining really. So far getting back into martial arts, meditation and some soul searching had helped to shift my train of thoughts.
Some of the books from Eckhart Tolle have had a really good affect. I would really recommend The Power of Now to everyone. Cause part of addictions is getting away from the present moment, and part of sobriety is being as you are, in the present moment.
