75 Days and Struggling
Hi everyone --
I am at 75 days and in the middle of a real struggle. I have been unable to sleep well and it's taking a toll. This is dangerous ground for me because I used to drink to help me fall asleep.
In terms of HALT -- I am angry lonely and tired. And scared.
I really had no idea how hard sobriety was going to be.

Just had an episode myself. I'm almost to my first year. Started a couple of days ago. Getting through it by being here on SR and visiting a friend from my local support group in about half an hour. Sobriety can be hard at times.
Stay right here if you can.
Either way it will pass
Just don't pick up. Not today

Are you going to meetings regularly?
Are you staying in contact with your sponsor?
Are you working on any of the 12 Steps or 12 traditions?
Are you staying grateful for having another day clean & sober?
Are you having regular discussions with the God of your understanding?
You will get thru these feelings, but it may be of a priceless benefit
to realize that a spiritual way of life can make the road a little smoother.
Best of God's blessings to you and great hope that it will get better for you.

Hi relief
we have an insomnia forum here that may help
Insomnia/Nightmares - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information
and this link has helped me personally
Insomnia? 42 Simple Tips to Help You Get to Sleep - Insomnia treatment, cures
It may also help you to know that sleep disturbance is a symptom of PAWs
Post Acute Withdrawl - Relapse Prevention Specialists - TLC The Living Center
But, ultimately, if not sleeping is causing you problems, please see a doctor and discuss your situation.
and keep reaching out in terms of your sobriety - both here and, if you do a programme, there too

Thanks for sharing, relief.
75 days; wow!
I hope I'm as strong and smart at 75 days to reach out like you've done here.
I, too, have relied on drinking to wind down when I'm wired and have trouble sleeping. It sounds, though, that checking into possible causes might be a start. I'm a female, so some of my difficulties stem from hormonal issues while most nights it's plain old anxiety.
Good luck and hang in there.

I agree with you that lack of sleep is a really tough issue, especially when it drags on.
Sometimes meditation can work to help you relax. There are also supplements like valerian and melatonin that can help. And, I believe that the B vitamins are a help in sleeping well.
It might be something to talk over with your dr too.

Relief-Thanks for posting this. I am on day 63 and have had problems sleeping as well.
I actually put myself in the situation of living in isolation in the mountains for 4 weeks (I was working there). I think actually feeling frustration over not sleeping kept me awake half the time.
I just returned to the city (home) lastnight. Thank God!
I have really miscalculated how difficult this can be. I feel very fortunate to have made it out of there with my sober time.
I slept well lastnight since I was in my own bed. I hope sleep comes as easily tonight. If not, I'm trying some things suggested on this thread.

In terms of HALT -- I am angry lonely and tired. And scared.
The hungry portion is an easy one, just eat.
The angry portion I found the solution for in the steps.
The lonely portion was easily addressed by simply going to AA meetings and being with people who had found a solution to thier alcoholism.
The tired portion was addressed with sleep which came for me much easier as I worked through the steps and found solutions for my anger, resentments, and fears.
The solution I have found for my alcoholism I found in the fellowship & program of AA, the steps I took with my sponsor, I do not face my alcoholism or any problems alone today, there are millions that have found the same solution I have found.
