Rob, dude, I hate to put it so bluntly, but you're crazy if you really think you can drink in a controlled way that won't harm you.
I drank that way for 13 years. Unlike you, I did not develop any health problems. Like you, I rationalized it like mad. Let me just tell you that the booze doesn't need to jackhammer you or blow you up -- it's happy to chip away at you in a way that you won't even notice until your life is so effed up that you kind of have to face things.
Controlling it is a pain in the ass. You always want more. It ends up controlling you because you find a million ways to lie yourself into drinking, even though you could be doing something much healthier and more fun/productive.
My advice: Just quit, man. It's a lot easier than playing the game you're playing, which I know all too well.
