Day Three, this must be what hell is like!
Hello my name is Jason,
I have been sober for three days and this is what hell must be like. I made the decision to stop drinking when my wife informed me that I had not been three years without a drink or a beer in my hand. It started off very innocent drinking did. A beer with friends a drink with a girl or just hanging out at a party. When I lost my house in 2003 I became very agitated and began to drink heavily i.e.: a 12 pack a night, this wasn’t a lot it seemed I was still able to get up and go to work function and not drink until I was home again. This quickly turned to drinking in the morning to the afternoon then drinking before going to bed. I have noticed lately that when I drink too much I wake up with a headache and puking my guts out, this was a sign to quit. So I decided to quit and it has been rough. Last night I was unable to keep my food down again and had the worst headache I think I have ever had, I was freezing and the house was 78 degrees. I have not been able to keep food down for three days and I am also having problems with my lower stomach. Please tell me that this will be over soon so I can get on with living again, thank you ahead of time for any replies that you all may offer. Just looking for support from someone that has been thru this, my wife is trying but she doesn’t understand she has been very supportive but just can’t grasp this pain.

Yeah, it lasts about a week for the major symptoms to go away. It'll be a while before you feel "normal" again, though. At least that was my experience.
Any other symptoms ? Shakes ? Sweats (Hot or Cold) ? Anxiety ? Insomnia ?
Hang in there, it gets better.

er?
Thanks for the reply again,
Some insomnia, shakes not bad just fidgety and nervous. I have read some of the dangers of quitting cold turkey and I am staying vigilant for some of the signs of danger. I just want the headaches to stop they feel like steel rods going thru my brain. Last night I was able to sleep after throwing up my dinner after lying in the bed for two hours wrapping a pillow around my head and screaming into it. I am going to begin a regimen of milk thistle tomorrow as to begin healing my liver. What would they do for me in the er? Just curious would I be admitted into the hospital? Would they give me a shot of something??? I am trying to do this naturally with out drugs, I mean my god that is why I am here now. Why does it seem we have a drug for everything in this world? What I need is to be sober and a good father to my new son and a better husband for my bride. One day at a time right. First things first get well.

If you're able to get to ER, and it'll really be hell...this being a holiday weekend...they might give you a shot of librium or something similar...it was librium 25 years or so ago.
Try taking an OTC for the headaches...lots of liquids, if you can stomach them...maybe a sip at a time...oj or cranberry juice are good.
It's been my experience that detoxing usually takes about five days...that's the limit they'll keep you in a medical detox. It should get better each day. Just try not to drink...or you'll start the process of addiction all over again.
Easy does it.

No, you're not in hell, although I know it feels like it. Hell would be actually drinking until the bitter end, in my opinion. I was headed there fast and I remember the withdrawals. They were horrid. I feel for you. I think the worst of the physical stuff calmed down by day four or five. I would take Ibuprofen for the headaches. The stomach stuff should resolve itself, just don't eat anything real heavy. Treat your stomach as if you're recovering from a stomach bug, soup, crackers, tea etc. I had the shakes real bad and I think that was the worst but there may also be a lot of irritability, insomnia, sweats.
The good news is, you've gotten through 3 days now so the end is in sight and if you stay the course you don't ever have to go through this again if you don't choose to. That thought is what kept me sane and I hope it helps you. Keep posting here, we've been there and can empathize and can assure you that it can and does get better.
Hugs,
Kellye
