New Year Challenge Part 2
Its my baby dogs birthday tomorrow. Shes going to be 11 years old and i love her dearly. She waits at the door for me everyday to get home and greets me like ive been away for days. How attached we get to them. Regardless of what our mood is they wag that tail and get so excited. The photo is of her when i gave out one day she hid in the garden once i calmed down i spent the rest of the day spoiling her as i felt guilty for giving out. Dogs what do you do.

That’s a very scared looking dog, AL 🤣
I was due to be heading to Ireland about this time, but just this once, procrastination was my friend. I’d ordered a birth certificate for my grandfather, and the dates sort of checked out. Then I ordered a death certificate (from the UK) and it stated his date of birth. Oops, that didn’t match the birth cert. His father’s name was also on my grandfather’s marriage certificate, and you guessed it, that didn’t match either! The birth cert I’d ordered was a different guy altogether 🤣 Luckily I’ve now found the cert online’(I can now see where my dad got his appalling spelling from). That’s my final piece of paperwork for the Irish passport.
But now I can’t find any of them in census records. It doesn’t matter for the passport, but it’d be good to have a better idea where they all lived. It was still in Sligo. I’ll keep looking

I read about a paper shortage in the early 20th century, so a lot of the census records were pulped. That shows 1901. Before that, records are very rare.
Not very PC, but the titles in the top right corner did make me laugh. I’m a bad person
The book should be interesting. AL 👍

I dislike the Autumn and Winter when its dark and wet. I need a bit of sun warmth already 😫. Walking to work in the dark dosent help matters. Still at least im not sick with a pain in my head. Got to look on the bright side.
Ok went out this evening to a 50th and left after 20 minutes leaving my wife and friends. (I said i had to go as i am working tomorrow) I didn't want to drink or anything like that, but almost had a panic attack while there. I felt completely awkward, out of place, just didn't want to be there so i left and came home. Im a little embarrassed and feel a little guilty. What was that all about. Im still feeling nauseous. It was a complete surprise as i thought i had become a little more confident around people but tonight felt the oppisite. Im going to have a lie down and meditate for a bit i think.

That’s a shame, AL. Do you think it’s a hangover (I wish I had a better word) from your drinking days when a few drinks would’ve increased the confidence? I think you were braver to make excuses and leave rather than feel awkward and down all evening. I don’t think you would’ve drunk as you know you’ve got a better life now.
I get the social anxiety.
Panic attacks suck big time.
It seems mine come from seemingly nowhere sometimes also but I find they usually come when I have a lot on my mind.
It's not necessarily the fault of the situation at hand but rather a climax of all my worries crashing down at once. Subconsciously.
You did the right thing. Self care above all.

Hodd i was actually out last Saturday with 600 others, 99%of them drinking and visited the same place with no problems. FK that was like a light bulb moment i had after reading your post. Social anxiety and an out of nowhere panic attack along with being a little stressed at the moment. More reading tonight to see if its a one off.
This mornings walk to work helped, i know its the same old same old but i love sunrise.

You have a nicer walk to work than most, AL.
You’re right to give this some thought whether it’s an autumn/winter thing or being stressed out, etc. I don’t mean dwell on yesterday, that’s done and forgotten, but things in general. Whatever people may write or say, we are way more statistically likely to turn (back) to drink than a “normie” so need to keep an eye on our mental well being. Maybe some “me” time (says the guy who now has lots more me time 🤪 ? Take it easy

Back after a walk and got to go out on the Kayak. Im exausted 🙂 but feeling much better. Went up river, tough going against the tide but nice and easy on the way back. It helps when you are intrested in wildlife theres lots around the river. Went pass what us locals called the old bridge. Guess what we called its replacement yes you got it the "The New bridge". Built when i was a small lad, it actually was named after a bishop or something but the new bridge stuck, even when we give directions and call it that😁.
the boat is there a long time not sea worthy by any means.
i prefer the harbour i think but nice going up river all the same.
