One Year and Under Club Part 63
Hey Pouncer good to see you over here, it's clear you're serious. For me this first year sure has turned into an emotional roller coaster, and I gladly take support wherever I can find it... I recently found this thread too, and I'm certainly serious about 'graduating' in a few months' time
This time, I am reading a lot about recovery and most of all, being proactive in anticipating issues. I am in an IRL support group, too. I remember from past false starts toward permanent abstinence that the first year is tough. The difference is that I see sobriety as a blessing, not a punishment.
Happy to be here.
Welcome Bouncer!
I agree Bouncer: if we look at sobriety as if we are 'giving up' alcohol, we can feel we are losing something huge from our lives. Psychologically that can make a difference in our approach - and success or failure - of our recovery. I we look instead at sobriety as a positive choice then we can feel we are gaining instead.
A Positive Mental Attitude makes such a huge difference in our recovery.

I've always liked the analogy of working out/training for a boxing match....like you said Pouncer, being "proactive" ~ I read somewhere how it's important to stay close to recovery ~ like showing up each day to exercise is similar to fighting off the AV; you don't wait until you get in the boxing ring and get punched in the face before you learn how to defend yourself.....not sure where I heard that, but it stuck with me.

Doing well despite a virus coming on. Eating, plenty of liquids, otc caplets. Had a slight urge for good old Nyquil … not happening.

Yes! A boxing match is a great analogy.
I love my xbox and I think of cravings and sobriety like a video game. Maybe I don’t need to worry about defeating the boss yet, but it takes constant work to fight off lesser enemies — and I know I am strong enough to do that much.:
I feel such a sense of relief finding this thread. I hope you all have a great Saturday. I am off to work. Excited about finishing my latest work project.

Well done Wisc! Great to see you in triple digits!
I remember accidentally putting alcohol NyQuil in my mouth and quickly spitting it out in the sink. That could have been a huge trigger. As you all advance in sobriety, you will get a better handle on possible triggers. I avoid any food cooked with wine or any alcohol, as I find it a trigger. I used to cook a lot of things in wine, mainly as an excuse to drink while cooking. One for the pan, two for me.
Obviously, this can be a challenging period with the NYE festivities all around us. Even the normies are likely drinking. Just remember to play that tape in your head and think about how great it will be waking up New Year's Day without a hangover.
Have a good day all!

Congratulations on 102 now Wisc!
Pouncer, good to hear You now have steady hands! ( dare I ask what you do? Please don't say surgeon!! )
I too avoid alcohol in food - no easy task this time of year - I also use alcohol free mouthwash I avoid all potential triggers, I figure why risk my sobriety for something I don't need?

Feeling better and getting back to my old, sober self.
Going to check out a dog tomorrow at the shelter. My dog is getting lonely and the kids are starting to look online...It’s hard losing a pet. Dogs are my favorite people.
Checking my counter...27 days today. Hope everyone is well.

Pouncer I hope you manage to find a dog looking for it's new forever home. I don't think Miss Molly ( my avatar) would appreciate another dog, she's been our little girl for 9+ years now and her nose would be decidedly out of joint if we got another! Plus, we spend a lot of time at our home in Spain, and while I have great dog sitters in my mum and my best friend, I wouldn't like to ask either of them to house two fur babies rather than just the well behaved sweet natured loving girl they already do.
