I agree, Neo; so many factors play into addiction. That seems to be why only abstinence from our DOC results only in sobriety - not in true recovery.

Quite often, alcoholics/addicts need therapy, counseling, some form of face-to-face support, rehab, etc.

Do you have a real plan for recovery?

I'll post a really good link in a minute.

Hi Neo. Sounds hackneyed but keeping it simple makes it so much easier, and I don't underestimate its complexity. Saw my psychiatrist yesterday and we talked about my stopping drinking and how for years I have been trying to 'control' my drinking. Yeah, right! He talked to me about the simplicity contained in abstinance and how I would now be able to avoid all of the mental gymnastics tied up in always seeking control. It feels so much simpler and a huge weight removed. I am now in a position to work on all of the complexities that underpin my drinking. I'm trying to keep that simple too. Back in the horse Neo. Yay!

8.00am on day 51. 24 more please. Everyone else is still in bed hungover while I am off for a run this morning. That should help keep my mind on the job ready for the rest of what temptations and peer pressure the day has to bring. Have a great day everyone

Have you thought about talking to a drug and alcohol counsellor love?
This has been very helpful for me.

Venus I have spoke to my gp and had an appointment with a therapist but cancelled,my anxiety is behind my drinking and having seen a therapist before did not work out..thoughts more often than not now are to end it all not that I ever would so no need to worry just saying that they are there...

I hear you love. I'm sure there are many of us who have felt that way, but it is possible to feel better than this.

I was trying to look up Drug and Alcohol Counselling Telephone Services in Donegal. There may already be a list on the information pages here.

That's what I would do right now if I was you...talk to someone who understands, and wants to help you.
