I just unwrapped a throat lozenge, still have a bit of a sore throat, and there are quotes on the wrapper. This one says: "Don't try harder, do harder."
This is my thought for the day!
Lovely spring day here, I've opened up my windows!

Hi Croissant, I tried AA when I first sobered up last July. I went to a couple of meetings a week for about 3 months, got my coins etc. but have not gone since. I see the value for some people, who can question that it has worked for thousands upon thousands of people? It just wasn't for me. There were a multitude of reasons, I'm religious so the higher power concept was not an issue for me. It was more the people, I know that sounds awful. I tried various meetings and found a few folks I could relate to but some of them, wow. So judgmental, so opinionated - I was told I would never be successful if I didn't do 90 in 90, that I should forget looking for a job as sobriety had to be my number 1 priority even though being homeless was on the horizon if I didn't get back to work. If I chose to do something else, like spend time with my grown daughter, instead of go to a meeting it was looked down upon. I think another problem for me is that I am a very private person and I just could not, or would not, completely open up to strangers I had just met and the only common bond was alcohol.

Please know I am not bashing AA, it worked for my dad and I will forever be grateful for that, it just was not me. AA is a wonderful program, give it a shot, what have you got to lose?

Oh, thanks for sharing, Leshar. No, no...not thinking of it at all now. I don't know...I think for the most part, we are all doing well, steadily navigating hurdles. (Yes....I mean you lurkers, too! xx) and that got me to thinking whether people had tried other things before SR.

Funny, I feel similar to you about the spirituality thing. Which surprises me on one hand, but on the other it's nice to feel hmmm, not sure, connected to the universe again. (Oh, God...get me the hippy beads.)

And myself, more and more each day. The WFS stuff also helps...I can get forgetful on that! But I've started keeping a journal. Just quotes or something that sticks with me for the day etc.

Edit: Lulu! You must have posted while I was writing my essay above...and mentioned lurkers, lol.

Thanks for sharing. Yes...can relate a bit. Depends on the meeting I suppose. I forgot to mention, I went to ALAnon before I drank because my first husband was an addict...my Mother was an alcoholic. I also, ironically...during that time, did volunteering sessions visiting high schools to talk to students about my story with an alcoholic parent, to help them to reach out to Alateen should they need support.

Ironic, hey.

Hiya Crois , i tried AA after one of my stints in rehab . I couldn't quite get the "higher power" notion , nor was i comfortable holding hands at the end of each session . UsuallY I'm a demonstrative person etc , but it just felt weird to me

Each time i went , the same people held the floor .

I enjoyed listening to some of the stories , but it just wasn't for me .

As Lulu says , lots of people get something out of it and it works for them. Not me tho .SR is all i need.

I'm not saying i will never go again , but i have no desire .

I'm glad Dee didn't ban me for answering your question,Crois.

I don't know how to rate this day.
First thing this morning I planned to take a ride for some plumbing fitting to help me make water changes easier in the tank.
My truck started funny. Clicked then turned over. So I shut if off and then it wouldn't start.
Did the usual, checked out the battery/connections and it turned out to be the starter.
Long story short,It had a lifetime warrenty, but for the life of me I couldn't find the receipt.
Looked everywhere,I'm usually good about putting receipts in the glove box.

So had to spend $100 on a new starter.
Fixed it,but wish it wasn't so expensive.
Oh well, live and learn.

Crazy day,be outside working and the sun would be out,10 minutes later it would be raining.

Uggggh, sorry you couldn't find your warranty, Bob. I guess at least it happened when you were at home, not stuck out somewhere.

Thanks for putting my personal pic up, Snoozy. Jeez.

I'd never heard of a gumby, so Snoozy was doing me a service, Croissant!

Bob, that's too bad about your starter matter. Hey, can you swing by tomorrow, and do a wee plumbing job for me?!
The sprayer thingy feature in my kitchen sink was leaking, so I tried to see what was wrong, youtubed a fix, but all I succeeded in doing was making it worse, so I've got a mother lode of cloths wrapped round the bottom of the attachment, cos every time I turn on the tap, the thing spits and spouts everywhere!
And the plumber I know who is good and cheapish, is a grumpy old man! I will have to steel myself to deal with him.

Cleaning service coming tomorrow, I'm looking forward to the bulk of the heavy work being done, and then I may be better able to keep up with things.
I spent a lot of time doing yard clean up today. It was such a lovely sunny day!

It's going to be even more boring here at work this week.
I'm alone at the office till Thursday. Brought plenty of snacks.
It's a nice day, so I'll probably leave a bit early today.

It's been very slow here.
My two coworkers are off to N. Carolina to work on a past project.
We're a small R&D branch of a rather big company. There's been no new projects for quite some time now. I think one of the biggest reasons I drank id because of lack of security at my job. But the overwhelming anxiety that drinking was causing was 10X worse than anything job related could cause.

I can understand.

Funny how we think doing something so self destructive helps....even for a moment.

Oh the days when I didn't even really know how to navigate a liquor store! When I broke up with my first husband - which was pretty full on, it would never even have remotely crossed my mind to go grab a drink. :/

I think my drinking really picked up when I was traveling for the company a lot.
Being on the road and living out of a suitcase can be very boring at times.
It was not uncommon for me to have a 30 pack of beer in my motel room.
Eventually moved on to hard stuff. Easier to carry and more punch.
