One Year and Over Club Part 16
Yay Steve, I was st thinking of you this morning when I was posting on the Undies, I meant to ask a fter you here but my drink addled brain forgot! How are you doing mate? X
Oh LB...think your little man is letting you know you need to rest up a bit more. My son was 10 days late and I was booked in to have an induced labour. My husband had a 'little word' with him because the hospital booked the induction on the same day as England were due to play a football match, so he did as he was told and arrived naturally a few days before. We joke about that now because our son is football crazy, he plays for 2 teams and manages another...football always comes first for him and he arrived on time to watch his very first match at 2 days old...
Instant...you rode 70 miles?? I would be dead.
Hi to all. Work is super stressy and difficult at the mo. Lots of meltdowns and tears. It's report writing time with deadlines to meet, people start stressing about being moved next year, and we've also an internal promotion being offered with 3 teachers going for the same job. I am run off my feet and really feeling tired.
Toots...the pros and cons list for the new job has become a bit more complicated since I started stressing whether because it's so close to where I live, I might be likely to run into someone who knows me from my AA meetings. I know I'm seriously over-thinking stuff now and I'm so tired it won't be logical. I've a week off next week, that will be the time to contemplate I think.
Good to see you Steve
Hi to you all. Off to face another day. Horrid child protection meeting first thing but at least it's not raining at the moment.

Jeni- anybody that recognizes you from AA will be in the same boat as you since you'll recognize them from AA too. Personally, I think it says something really positive about us as recovering alcoholics that we've made the effort to turn things around. I know not everyone agrees and it's still something that most of us would rather be kept secret from some people. But everyone has problems and sometimes when we're open about ours, it makes others feel less isolated and afraid of theirs.
Yesterday I cleaned out the garage enough that I could park the new car in there. I've never parked a car in my garage at all so that was really cool. Although I have quite a bit more to do before it will be a very comfortable fit.
Today I am stressing a bit- I have a TON of work stuff that needs done and only 3 work days until my next trip. So, I need to ground myself a bit. I'll get done what I can and the world isn't going to stop spinning over whatever I don't get finished- It will still be there for me to do when I get back from my trip anyway. One day at a time, right?

Well day 2 of being off work and I'm going crazy.
Looks like something wrong with my eye is puffy.
Look like life was waiting for me to turn 1 year clean and sober and start through in me curve balls in one week so much happens that I don't not what to do oh yes one thing I know no to drink or get high thanks to HP that I choose to call God.

Well,
I just lost a very long post and I answered all here and told about my day on the tractor. Maybe tomorrow. I have to remember that tokens expire here and to copy posts that I worked on all day a bit at a time. Oh well. Hi all.

Hi all just a quick check in, as I have had a busy day
Jeni, don't be put off by the location in relation to AA, you are all in the same boat there, what exactly could they say or do. Don't over think it, you have enough on your hands without creating problems.
LB hope all is ok?
DG kudos on the garage space for the car.
Erfra, hope the eye goes down soon, try to keep a routine of getting up the same time you would for work, and keep looking everywhere for work. Update your résumé, look on Craig's list, work out your financial commitments, so you don't have to worry about money.
Bye guys

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I'm still not entirely convinced by the 'if they recognise you from AA they won't grass you up because they're in the same boat' school of thought. I live in England...gossip like that is gold dust...it's the tiniest bit judgemental and closed minded round here.
But hey, I wasn't going to think about it for the time being and I won't.
Oh and I've discovered I'm fat. I was always super skinny all my life, then I gave up smoking a year ago, became addicted to sugar and...hey presto! My trousers won't do up without a lot of effort and a few prayers and I've got to do something about it. My next focus I think...
My son's car has been declared a write off by his insurers. It was only 2 years old. God, he was lucky to have walked away from that one. I'm so thankful for that. Life is precious.
Erfra...thinking of you...I hope something good comes along for you really soon
Right...it's back to crazy land i go..... Yesterday my boss said that she was so stressed she had had to have a vodka the night before. I said jokingly that I didn't think she HAD to, but that she had WANTED to. She suddenly screamed at me...'we'll you might not HAVE to any more but I DO!!!' She isn't an alkie so I don't know what that was all about. Work stress is getting to us all. 2 years ago these scenarios would have made me want to drink. Heck..it was exactly these scenarios that DID make me pick up.
But not today....
Have a good day folks. Nearly the weekend... x

Called my Mom yesterday on her 77th birthday. She's doing well, but Dad's battling some health issues...he turns 82 in August, so it's to be expected I guess.
Had some more issues with my water the past couple of days. Turns out that there were over 60 water main breaks in the city of Milwaukee the past few days. One of the sub-stations went down and another tried to compensate by turning up the pressure and that's what led to the widespread pipe breaks. Everything appears to be fixed now. They are also re-surfacing my street this summer, so that'll be another pain to deal with, but it'll be nice when it's finished.
We had a high near 90F yesterday! We went right from the deep freeze to the frying pan this year. Luckily temps will be near perfect for the holiday weekend with highs in the low 70s.
Have a great Thursday, overs!

For our non-American friends, our Memorial Day is to honor those who sacrificed it all. In commonwealth countries Remembrance Day/Armistice Day/Poppy day honors yours, our allies.
The "Memorial" in Memorial Day has been ignored by too many of us who are beneficiaries of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Often we do not observe the day as it should be, a day where we actively remember our ancestors, our family members, our loved ones, our neighbors, and our friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice:
•by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.
•by visiting memorials.
•by flying the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon.
•by flying the 'POW/MIA Flag' as well (Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act).
•by participating in a "National Moment of Remembrance": at 3 p.m. to pause and think upon the true meaning of the day, and for Taps to be played.
•by renewing a pledge to aid the widows, widowers, and orphans of our falled dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.
Memorial Day
Begun in 1866 to honor Civil War Combatants, it was later expanded to honor all brave men and women who served this country in all wars.
Between cookouts, picnics, vacations and sales, Memorial Day may be losing its
meaning! Please take one minute, at 3 PM local time on Memorial Day to Remember and honor those brave men and women, who paid the piper that we may dance.
A Day to Remember
By Itchy
They gave their all, their lives, and the futures they held dear,
They left behind a legacy of sadness and of tears.
A folded flag, the sound of Taps, the pride mixed in their leaving,
With heads held high, and tears in eye, the loved ones still are grieving.
Remember them.
Went in harm's way, so young, and they never will grow older,
Leaving memories, and pictures, citations in a folder.
They left their sons, their little girls, to grow up wondering why,
Their daddy that they loved so well, went off to war to die.
Remember them.
For some it changed, and mother, was the casualty of war,
The arms that hugged them never would again, forevermore.
Yet all were sons and daughters, and left behind an ache,
In the hearts of those, whose turn should come, before their children's wake.
Remember them.
They rest in peace, some say, and who am I to doubt it?
The higher purpose it was served, the enemy was routed.
Some came home, some never went, some only watched the news,
But they will never hold their child, or argue current views.
Remember them
It wasn't meant, in leaving, when they all marched off to war,
That we'd be left without them, from the cannon's deadly roar.
I'm sure that they, would rather, have been here for all of us,
But someone had to fight those wars, someone pay the cost.
Remember them
At 3 PM, this Monday, my flag will fly half mast,
As all across the nation, floats the somber sound of Taps.
It's only for one minute, or maybe three or four,
In tears, I will remember, those who died in every war.

Thanks Itchy, beautiful poem.
It's Friday, at last. I'm so tired I seriously had to drag myself out of bed and the thought came into my mind that I could phone in sick...but that reminds me so much of when I was drinking and having to take days off for hangovers, and no-one ever died of tiredness did they? Lol.
A week off next week, and though I will have to spend some of it catching up with paperwork, I can do lots of lovely things too. Can't wait.
Have a happy Friday my friends x

Good morning Overs
I know this poem refers to England but it is still a great remembrance poem.
For The Fallen
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.
But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
