Many of us have problems with cravings in early sobriety.
soo......I'll share what worked for me....from my files
I think there are 2 types of cravings
perhaps a mixture?
One type is more a habit than physical.
You drive home and your car steers into your
favorite bar or package store.
You come home tired...sit in "your: chair and
want the usual comfort of a glass/can in hand.
To sleeep better...toss down a drink.
These can be avoided by changeing your routine
Drive a different route
Change the furniture around..sit in a different place.
Fix a glass of anything non alcoholic.
If you drink booze from a can...use a glass
If you did drink from a glass...use a mug
I did time my cravings in early sobriety.
Mine were 5 to 7 minutes in duration.
seemed forever...but that was false.
I took action....drank cold watter ...brushed my teeth
went for a walk...danced around the room...ate Lifesavers
I was also taking a multi vitamin and a B 12
I was following an eating plan for hypoglycemia
I attended AA daily ..committed myself to the program.
Within 2 weeks they lessened immensley... in both
intensity and duration By 2 months they vanished
The mental obcession to drink has never returned.

AWSOME job everyone!
I know that each one of you has it in ya to make it - yet another day sober! At 6 weeks, I love waking up in the mornings and not having to worry about going to work smelling like I bathed in alcohol -- even though I did... from the inside out!! Waking up clear-minded (except for the emotional roller coaster at times) and ready to tackle another day. In the evenings, doing what I want to do (for me, it's running) - instead of basing everything I did on when I could get out of work or away from people so I could start drinking! It's a really good feeling to have taken back my life - and gotten a second chance (ok maybe tenth chance or so) to start again.
Life IS good! And you're life is worth it -- glad you're all doing so well!

Ok, I think we all know each other well enough by now that we Londoners can teach the septics some cockney rhyming slang. So we'll start with the numbers seeing as we are all day counting at the moment:
(oh, sorry, first things first. septic = septic tank = yank. Hey, it wasn't me who made this stuff up, ok!!)
Hooped and Iamlivingfree are on "deep" today
I, myself, am in "hell" today
coop1 is on "Far too"
Sdsurfn20011 and phytoman are on "Fiddle"
I think Aurora should be on "scuba"?
Igiveup is on "Holy"
Sorry if I missed you out - please pick from the following list and let us know:
1 - Lost (and won)
2 - Bottle (of glue)
3 - Holy (see)
4 - Stand (in awe)
5 - Scuba (dive)
6 - Fiddle (-sticks)
7 - Exeter (in devon)
8 - Fartoo (late)
9 - Coal (mine)
10 - Foxes (den)
11 - Hell (and heaven)
12 - Deep (delve)
13 - Hurt (and be mean)
14 - (Sortin) letters
Whichever it is, have a great one!!

NoAlcoholToday, you're so quick, by the time i've finished my relatively short post, you've sneaked in with something dramatic like this!
Great work, although I might just stay in bed tomorrow, i'm not good with pain!
Speak later!

Well, apart from going for a walk around the local village with my flies undone (I thought sobriety might put an end to this kind of thing!!!!), I have been out with the chainsaw today.
We have a number of very large oak trees which are being completeley smothered by ivy (the stems at the bottom are nearly as thick as your leg!). So anyway, as you cut through the ivy stem, there is this sound a bit like someone inhaling (not too dissimilar, actually, to when you release a slightly overtight brassiere!!)
I gotta go out to dinner tonight with friends so am facing another small battle to win.
So far, so good on day 11. Hope all is going well with the team out there?

Just to say hello to the team...I'm on my day 5...lot of thoughts and anxiety...but I'm sober and feel gooood in general. It's getting better and better. I know where and who I was after months of sobriety...I want that again.
However, what is imprtant is this day, and today I am sober and I am grateful for that.

NAT, as far as you cockney rhyming slang... I'm "lost in tall weeds", in other words, I totally 'don't get it'. But that's ok too...
Congrats to all on your daily progress.
And welcome to any newcomers. (((hugs)))

Hello, today is Day 1! I have made it through many Day 1s, but something in my head and heart tells me this has to be my last one. Last night, I poured what was left of my bottle down the drain and said no more! I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, guilty, ashamed, angry, embarrassed, humiliated and disgusted with myself. I'm tired of the awkward silences and knowing looks between my husband and 9 year old when my words slur or I forget something. I'm tired of waking up and immediately trying to replay the past evening in my head to remember if I said or did anything totally inappropriate. I have been reading through some of the threads and feel like coming here will help. Thanks in advance for being here!
