Seventh weekend sober. Hello to the world! Sat here sipping tea. Sun is shining.

Thanks for your posts KC.

I do not go to meetings. Don't mind those who do. Some may need to. It can be a life or death thing.

I do go to the Orthodox Liturgy. It's a bit of a trek, most Orthodox services are. But I love them. They last hours. You are standing throughout. Great ethnic authenticity about my one as it is Romanian. Lots of nice food floating about after usually.

At home I have an icon corner and oil lamps burning. In fact hang on I'' take a pic of it for you all. (click to supersize)

Before the "Doesn't resonate brigade" wade in, it's just something I do for me. You don't have to.

KC see if there is an Orthodox church in your area. It might be just fun checking one out for the experience if nothing else.

Hey gang,
Just a short note to let you know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am with my Dad and he is living the last moments of his life. It is not pretty, but it is life.

I have not been able to attend AA meetings, but I did yesterday and it really helped me.

Be good to yourselves and each other. We can beat this disease. If is was easy, anybody could do it. We are tough and we can win.

Miss you all,
wildrover

hi guys, lots of interesting posts.. good to read your stories... we are all friends here!

i do find AA meetings help me.. they literally take away my desire to drink if i have been to one.. i think i am extremely lucky to feel that way.

both my kids out tonight and i just knew i was going to pick up bottle of wine.. and dvd.. kept trying to remind myself how yuck i would feel, as i would have had to have drunk the whole bottle to hide the evidence from kids tomorrow.. no way would i tip it down the sink

i drove to a meeting i hadn't been to before.. very nearly didnt go in but did.. and now i am safely home alcohol free....

can you share why the didnt work for you kc? or is it private?

keep on the bus people we all are heading for the same destination!

to all newbies, and all oldies (LOL) you know what i mean

Good Morning everyone..

My daughter has a volleyball tournament this morning, we need to be there by 7:15...
urgh....

TB--you know, alcohol is a depressant. I know it sweetlly tells us that we will feel happier when drinking, but, read your past posts, sober vs drinking. The joy, laughter and lightness in your sober posts shines thru..before you drank again, you were truly inspirational.

Look at your post,, or anyone when drinking...sorry, most of them have a down trodden overtone to them. Its the affects of the alcohol to our bodies, to say nothing of what it does to our minds....

TB...please just put the drink down, hop on the bus and start riding again..

Shakespeare, that is a lovely icon corner.

Wildrover, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Anono-thanks for sharing your AA experience and strength.

Dee-how are you feeling?

I am off to volleyball...

i do envy people i know who are religous and have a sense of 'inner peace'. all i have had the past few years in inner turmoil i think !! but since i have stopped drinking... nearly 4 weeks! i certainly feel more at peace... and am finding i am not so quick to jump to conclusions, my mind is opening.. make sense?

My grandfather was Eastern Orthodox Catholic originally, although after he married my grandmother he worshiped in the Roman Catholic church. I've never been to one of those services, but I did go to a little ethnic orthodox church of some sort (sorry I can't remember what type) and it was very interesting. The church was all gold and white with wonderful paintings on the ceilings. Lots of incense. The service was part in English and part in another language. Lots of similarities to the Roman church, though.
