I often see posted here where a parent has went to court and asked that their child be sent to rehab. My oldest son is currently in prison he violated his probation stealing pampers yep pampers I am surprised he had not been sent sooner because he has many felony charges most of which I was the plaintiff,

My son has court on February 25th on his first drug charges he was with some "friends" and everyone was taken in for the pills found in the car this, is his first drug charges.

What I am wanting opinions/suggestions on is this: I am considering going to court and maybe even seeing if I can talk to the DA. and suggest that rehab. be part of his sentence I know he has to want to stop I just felt it may give him some tools he has never had any thoughts?

Hi Angie, I believe your son would have to ask for rehab for a judge to consider inpatient treatment. This is likely something your son could ask his attorney/public defender about. I was told in the past they won't grant these requests if the offender isn't asking themselves. if he is on probation they may work with him as well. I think the courts recognize what we want so desperately for our adult children may not be what they want for themselves. He very likely has options, just needs to be self-motivated. I totally understand where you are. I've been there way too often myself. I will say an extra layer for the two of you in hopes of your son asking for the help he needs.

Thanks, for your response my son has always had a way of knowing the ins and outs of jail and I feel pretty sure he would the prison now Let Go Let God that is what I must do not sure what I was thinking.

When I'm faced with something and I just don't know what to do, I pray.....and keep my mind open. Often, the issue resolves itself (or God intervenes).

Dear Angie, as you know, JJ has been in jail and inpatient as a result of his crime against us. In both cases, the DA and the public defender have asked us what we want. I have asked for rehab inpatient long term for both times. I don't think it is wrong of you to ask , and of course, nothing will change unless our A's want to change. I still hope for that.

I see nothing wrong with you talking to the DA, if he will talk to you. My son was court ordered rehab twice in Fl. I wasn't thrilled with our governor at the time, but one of the siblings had a drug problem(s), was arrested for forging prescriptions and was court ordered rehab, relapsed, and was court ordered again.

I felt that his very public personal family problems helped others get counseling instead of just being locked up all day. My AS told me later that his laywer told him he almost went to prison and definitely would if he was arrested again.

Can you imagine your story being on CNN, local news, and the newspaper?? Mine was bad enough with the people that knew in my small circle lol!!!
