Well, like the best enabler I can possibly be..
(whack me now)
I went and picked up his birth certificate..
(whack me again)
and I'm working on the Social security card.

No excuses from me, I know I shouldn't, and still sometimes do.

I have had tooth pain and it is WORSE than giving birth ! but Advil works really well , I even used the walmart brand and it was just as good and way , way cheaper . Funny how tooth pain happens when there are holidays , mine was in the middle of the July long weekend , with a major heat wave also !! I would have rather giving birth to ten babies that weekend LOL
Hope your tooth feels better soon .

Hey! No whacking. I know how conflicted I can become when I do something to help the addict, but sometimes it's just 'helping' and nothing more. Being so used to restricting myself completely made it hard to learn how to act normally again. I don't see it as 'helping in moderation' in regards to my own recovery.

Most things that I did or do for him, when _I_ was in recovery, were to take some burden off of myself. Getting him his paperwork only cost your time, fees charged and maybe some future frustration should the 'worst case' happen and he loses them again. Is it worth it for you to know he _has_ these things? I guess so, or you wouldn't have done it. JMHO.

Toothes are better, I even slept through the night...(what a big girl)

Picking up the birth certificate was NO problem...
It's a real problem when someone doesn't have a social security card, and you need all this stuff to get it back, which of which is nothing he has...

A drivers license
A state ID
Passport...(yeah right)
health insurance (you're kidding right?)
Marriage document
Etc.

So, I got a Dentists statement saying he was their patient.

Still don't know if that will work.
Think I need a power of attorney....

Hmmm...

or else he can't fly home for Xmas....

In PA, they need the birth certificate for the US citizenship and anything showing your address for residency. Thats for a state ID card.
Does he need the soc card if he has the birth certificate in your state? Does he have any bills (even unpaid lol)?
The darn SS is the hardest to get.
Glad your tooth is better.

I think he just needs a photo ID to get a plane ticket, no?
(why would you need a S.S. card? Maybe a birth certificate, and photo ID card would do)

But, to get a photo ID, do you need a S.S. card, and birth certificate?
Also, can you get power of attorney by phone?

Yep, very difficult to get that S.S. card...

He really was their patient...

(Although that seems easier to forge that an embossed birth certificate...to me..but, then again, I really wouldn't know)

Look up your states DMV, and they'll list what is needed. A SS card should not be needed.
As far as power of attorney, I downloaded a form for my Dad, it was $15 and filled in all the blanks, then you'll need it notarized.
Still, if he has his address on something and the birth cert you should be OK.
Or even better, if he has suspended license thats still in the system they can see his pic.
Seems these days its easier to have your identity stolen than to prove your own!

I think I may just send him all the stuff, and let him figure it out in California...

Yes, I think you're right they should be able to pull up his picture if he goes to the DMV, and along with his Birth Certificate, and Dentists note....but California says you need a S.S. to get a ID...

I'm going to check on Power of Attorney tomorrow....
